Finally i can say that i'm starting to become a fan of Al storm again after some consistently good releases. I'm really liking Heartache (summertime remix) at the moment and i even bought another Fracus & darwin track today (don't let go of love) The world has gone mad surely???

I've always been very 50/50 on Al Storm. His twisty stuff (like 99.99% of twisty stuff) just doesn't appeal to me, and isn't what I look for in, or like about Hardcore. And his cheesy, vocal stuff - I dunno. Just never really quite hits the sport for me. The odd one does though, (Give A Little Bit Of Love being a recent example).

Well sometimes Al makes some weird stuff, and I can get over it as sometimes I'm weird aswell, altrough his amazing work overcompensate this :) So for me is very good

Al's a strange one for me. So much of his material i like, but so much i dont... For instance, HU4 was brilliant and his mix was my favourite. However his mix in HU5 really dragged the whole album down.. Sounds better recently though. Loving his track 'Give me my drugs'.

I think his leads are naturally polarising. On the vocal stuff, he tends to have a typical synth track playing chords or backing the main lead underneath those weaker, but louder, low-poly-sounding higher-pitch stabs which definitely don't do it for everyone. Also not sure about the large gaps between sections of notes he sometimes leaves in his drops. I'm not a huge fan of either technique, I think it makes his drops sound a bit weak and not quite complete but the fact that he can create massive lead melodies compensates for it on some of his tracks. And, all that said, at least he's doing something different. He has a recognisable sound to the extent that a lot of us could guess an Al Storm track before being told it was Al Storm.
After all, a great idea well-executed is gonna make a good tune unless you screw up big on the sounds, and he doesn't.

I like those leads he makes the sine / square wav leads. Been trying to get that type of sound forawhile now but its a tricky sound...
Also like those oldskool type of basses hes been making..

Yeah, that's the one mate. Not sure what waveforms he uses for them exactly but square/sine sounds about right to me.
Idk, I find them a bit weak, not convinced yet but it's growing on me slowly. :)

What the ****? I thought that shit died out in 2008!
Anyway, Al Storm's probably going to make more of those crappy ass Halloween tracks, so he's never going to fully recover. BTW, I'm pretty sure the lead you guys are talking about is a sine/square mix with a fast LFO on the pitch. Pretty straightforward to make.

Bingo. Haven't tried it yet but that definitely sounds like the one. :)

Al Storm is, and certainly will be, writing lots of good material. He lives locally now, and is working closely with us again. A hugely talented producer and engineer.

I actually like that track lol. I will however say that it came out years too late. Might've been something that he sat on for awhile and is now finally getting around to releasing it. Still a good track imho.
And yes he's had some of those tracks that just sound off in general, but he's had a lot of great tracks come out in all of his career and that should not be tarnished by some of the tracks that people consider terrible. Personally I hated werewolf when it came out, with the exception of the DnB breakdown in one of the versions. The track has grown on me a bit though.
But I'm very glad to hear that he is working closely with HU again! Al Storm has a breakbeat/DnB side that has been aching to come out of him. He threw down a set like that after his main room set in Toronto weeks ago and it was so f**king brilliant. I didn't even know it was him, I went into this room looking for a plug to charge my camera lol and what a surprise to see him on there. Here's a clip of him in the 2nd room, and Gammer in the main room.
I talked to him at the end of the event and I had to ask him why we haven't seen more of this before. He said he just never gets the opportunity because there's always a specific style of hardcore that everyone expects him to play. Glad to hear he's working with HU though so that way we can see more of this stuff from Al Storm :)
