Oh god not this again. At the end of the day it's Thumpa's choice on what he wants to do. Whether that decision would make him seem like he's some sort of "hero" to the scene, or a big giant douche it's on him. All this arguing about whether or not it should remain as exclusive as it is now is not going to make him change his mind, because it hasn't changed every time he has had one of these releases. Y'all are just wasting your time bitching about the wrong things.

Samination the tracks are signed exclusive to the album, the artists know that when they sign a contract and all are happy to do it because its nice to part of something special, I always pay my artists and its mutually beneficial them being on my label, plus most of them are mates and we like each other.
As for all the other topics, I don't see any other labels having to explain their actions, and I don't have to. All I will say is, people of my generation know that not all music is available for everyone and they understand that. The mp3/iTunes generation are so used to everything being available to them to download whatever time they wan that they expect it. Tough shit.

Plus, if my label released stuff digitally it would be off the front page of TID etc in 2 days and forgotten about in a week. People still talk about Worldwide Freeform and how they're gutted they didn't get a copy, you don't hear anyone saying stuff like that about digital music, its forgotten about in a matter of days.

i agree with thumpa on this one, music seems to have paraded into a disposable digital age, CD's are definitely the way forward, a physical product that you can hold and be proud of not a digital file on your computer that is at risk of being lost from hardware failure.

Tell that to RIAA and Apple. Aren't CD sales still going down while digital releases are going up? and funny enough, to the avail of RIAA, it's the pirates that help keeping the CD sales somewhat alive :P
And since Thumpa's replied to the question I wanted mostly answered, I will put my offence opinion down. Except this one: 2nd hand sales hurts arists more than piracy. Just think of the dope Habegale could earn :P

This was exactly my point. Either it's limited and worth something to some people (and the people that don't have it, because they don't have it) or it's available to everyone and worth nothing in the long term. Think antiques.

I think, Paul, that your work as a digital label is going well with In Your Head Records.
But you can do lot better if you decide to release a CD album. Those ones are what the scene needs.

He's not wrong.

A CD like what I imagine this might turn out like is missing from the current yearly release schedule. There is no single album that focuses on really wholesome, uplifting vocal Hardcore.
I often have thoughts about doing something like it myself, but with my absolute inexperience of label-running and CD producing, it wouldn't end well. I would also have a hard time (impossible time, more like) getting good quality tracks out of respected artists because nobody knows who the hell I am, and wouldn't risk associating their name with a project that may well fall on its arse.
Still, I think someone should do it. :-)

I've always figured that once a limited run CD sells it's stock, file sharing doesn't really hurt anyone. If anything it's a lovely form of free promotion. The only downside is it becomes 'less limited', which at the end of the day is artificial inflation of the worth of the tracks.
I still think there's something very special about owning physical products and it's not a 'nur nur, i've got a copy and you haven't' sort of thing, it's about having pride in a collection of your favourite things. Also, it takes more effort and balls to put a physical release out there, limited or not.
Anyway, well done. It's a positive sign for Freeform when releases are flying out of the door. :)

The man talks sense. The bit I've underlined is exactly what I was trying to say myself. :-)
