i just got asked by a woman who was at my mates bday party on friday if i would do a set for her husbands birthday on saturday...safe to say i'm shitting myself lol
but do i need a set of decks or could i just do it using vdj on my laptop like i normally do plus i'm in a pickle coz she said he wants me to play older happy hardcore but i have no clue if she means the bonkers style (i have tons) or the breakbeat style (i have none) i asked how many people will be there and she said around 100 so i dunno how the fcuk i'll cope
can anyone give me some advice on how to go about it i don't have a clue what to expect i'm ok when it comes to mixing with mates but not complete strangers and don't want to **** up
i'm getting paid 100 quid for it so i can't really refuse lol

Do you have a set of decks? and do you know how to use them?
If it's 100+ people I would go ahead and do decks instead of laptop djing, but that's just me. Although if you are more experienced with vdj then I'd go with that. This is the guy's birthday after all so I wouldn't want you trainwrecking.
Also, how long are you playing for? I think anything between 95-00 is good idea of what 'older' happy hardcore is. But I'd take some after 2000s as well just in case.

i have an old set of cdj's i got when i was 16 used to use them a lot but after several moves i lost the leads for them so they sit in the attic collecting dust i'm more comfortable with vdj so i should be ok
been speaking to the guy on facebook i've been invited for lunch tomorrow so i'll probably have a better idea about everything by then i'm just gonna take up my external hdd as that's full of vinyl rips from 93-05 and i'm sure i'll be playing for about 5-6 hours which is a little outside my comfort zone but hopefully it will be ok

Obvious things i'm sure you've already thought to ask...
Where is the party. Is it somewhere with a system you can use?
What equipment might they need you to bring. Most people tend to assume that all DJ's have a shit load of their own equipment.
What music specifically do they want. 5-6 hours of hardcore at a party for 100 people will be a lot to take in for non-fans!
Hopefully you'll be able to prepare properly once you've met with him.

To be honest, I'd contact them and ask what kind of tracks they expect to get played. Maybe they even name you a few samples or even named of albums. This should give you enough feedback to what tracks you should use. I personally expect people on a wedding to be somehow nostalgic - like playing a trach to which a couple have met for the first time or shared their first kisses.

thought about most of that and i have a lot of 90's dance tunes aswell but he told me most of them are into the happy sound of the 90's but i think just to be safe i'll play some non-hardcore tracks just to mix it up a little might even throw in some old skool hip-hop i've been listening to lots of that recently maybe even a bit of trance
i told him i take requests too since i know not all of them won't be into some tracks i'l play i told him if anyone wants to come and have a look for a specific track i'll slot it in and still try to keep a nice flow to the mix
another idea is i have a couple of happy hardcore mixes i've done before i could just put them on for a while and have a break so i don't get bored

well it was a seriously good ****ing time mixed my ass of for nearly 7 feckin hours got wasted and got myself a girl so it went better than expected only problem is my laptop is dead (and i mean dead) i can't turn the ****er on so i have a question
if i buy a new laptop (i'm hoping to get my sisters old one if not i'll have to save up hard) can i put the hard disk from my old one into the new one and can it be a different model of laptop or does it have to be the same?
if not then is there any other way i can get the shit thats on the hard disk onto my external hard disk because the i recorded the mix onto my laptop instead of my external drive otherwise i would have uploaded the mix plus i really want to listen to it
