Here's a little personal story about music and things I'd like to share.
Last Saturday I got up at 4 am. We had to drive 4 hours to Warsaw to get some things done before moving there - pretty painful, but things need to be done etc. I remembered to grab some of the recommendations from this thread. Nothing like some hardcore to wake you up in the middle of the night.
Among the mixes I chose were 2 or 3 episodes of this podcast, including one by Transcend, with mostly Transcend tracks. It'd been a while since I'd heard a hardcore artist showcase mix and I've always liked his stuff, so it was an obvious choice.
What happened shortly after the mix kicked off was one of the most pleasantly surprising musical experiences in my life.
Picture this... You're in the passenger seat with not much to do, sleepy, with freeform in your ears. Not blasting full volume, just loud enough. Outside, in the dark, fewer and fewer lights as you're leaving the city and driving into the countryside. You start listening closely, with your other senses numb and pretty useless. You start hearing things you wouldn't normally focus on. One of those rare occasions.
And then the sun comes up. And the music keeps getting better. And better. And better. In fact it's so good that suddenly all the pieces come together in a, well, transcendent way. You know that insane primal rush when you first discover hardcore and you love pretty much everything about it? Constant eargasm, shivers down your spine, can't sleep because it's so good and you want it all? Well, this was different. Yes, there were shivers and all, but it was so much deeper and more engaging that I just sat in awe all the way through. Dawn turned to day, the mix wrapped up and I just felt awesome. All the musicality resonated in my ears, weird and insane mindscapes still clearly visible with my eyes closed, subtle bursts of euphoria still rushing like secondary seismic waves. And yes, I realize the setting had a lot to do with, but the music had to be very good. And it IS very good indeed.
I won't even try to describe it in detail, but the only time I felt something remotely similar was when I first listened to Sharkey's Hard Life for the first time. Yes, I think Transcend is on the same level of musical ability. A few other might be better when it comes to the power and drive in their tracks, the bite, the dancefloor impact, and I love all that... But musically, this guy wins.
So yeah. I guess what I'm trying to say is that we're very lucky to have Transcend producing hardcore. Give him loads of support, as it would be a huge loss if he stopped.
And dude, if you're reading this: artist album. Mandatory. You're too good. :)

you already spread around way enough words of love and I am unable to disagree at all. Although you probably should check out old-school Hardtrance as well. To my opinion Transcend is such a rising member of Rave Culture. No wonder why I added his acoount on FB.

I'm familiar with the older hardtrance, especialy the fast stuff that inspired Nu Energy and the like back in the '90s. There's a lot of that vibe in Transcend's tracks too.

Wowzers!!! Seriously, reading things like this just totally makes my month let alone day. I've been told by a lot of people that my music isn't the most easily accessible as it can be overcomplex but that it hugely grows as you find layer upon layer of interesting things on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th listens. So I think while I will strive to improve my mixdowns and invest in my kit, I will maintain my approach. People have also advised me to write to the lowest common denominator and while I most certainly will do that in my commercial projects (think prog trance, house etc), I wouldn't want to 'dumb down' my sound.
Many, many thanks for putting your thoughts on my music out there Torpex. And thanks to everyone who has and is supporting me. You make it all worthwhile!
Also re the artist album, that is the reason why you've not heard many tracks from me of late... I'm stashing tunes like a squirrel hiding nuts for winter :) it is on the cards though so rest assured as soon as I have details I'll be shouting about it.

NEVER, EVER water down or "dumb down" your sound!
If you do that then you're catering to a fanbase for which you are going to produce for to satisfy rather than satisfy your own needs. You create music that you want, then you will gain a fan base who will grow a more intimate relationship with your music, and who will freely follow along the journey you decide to take your music.

That's the deepest/least bitchiest thing I've ever heard you say. Accurate, though.

I'm sure you will all agree with me, Transcend's music has a depth that many other artists strive for. You are without a doubt a huge asset for the freeform scene and hope you never feel tempted to 'dumb down' your Freefrom, because it's mindblowing.
Oh, and thanks for listening to the Podcast, I'm glad you enjoyed it. [PLUG]Tune in again this Saturday Smiling Corpse Dead Happy Podcast Episode# X
