I didn't go raving before 97 but I've heard from a few people and read in mags that Toytown got dropped a handful of times in a night, I don't think I really heard it that much when I started to go to raves. Now I think about it, all my Skelter tapepacks didn't have much repitition, even then in 97 a lot of DJs were playing different tracks, maybe Cloudy Daze got hammered but that's it really.
Spot on m8...Like with Toy Town ...when the dubs were goin round in late 95 it would get dropped 3-4 times a night without fail! Obviously you can't expect people who weren't goin ravin at this time to completely understand the impact....it just made me walk into Arena 2 tbh lol
People on here might find it hard to believe ..but i think Toy Town was a poison chalice in a way, as a lot of people left the scene after this and similar tunes started coming out...if you go on 'old skool' forums ppl always say 'oh it all went fairground and died late 95 so i left' ....not ALL of it was like that obviously but i think because ppl heard it SO much they were put off ....It's something i don't like to see it tarred with as some of the best tunes were made between 96-98 ....it was such a good time for raving and i think the scene was at it's heigh then

Thanx, latininxtc! This one sounds much more like Nu Foundation rmx (which I still wish I could get a hold of!) which in my opinion sounded better as the production was not overcrowded, ear candy-wise.

They didn't like Toy Town, or the direction (Happy)Hardcore was taking in general?

I think there was a mis-conception about the 'direction' in which the music was goin...for 3-4 months late 95 the type of music djs like hixxy, scott brown ,druid etc produced was in vogue and i think ppl thought this was goin to continue . Imo by the beginning of 96 it hadn't really gone mainstream and had reverted back to a niche market...
I can remember goin to United Dance in October 95 (which i think was the first time scott brown had played at a major event south of the border) and it just souned like the same tune was being played on a loop all night! That's why i haven't got the tape pack for that night! lol
Interstingly if you look at the releases for Essential Platinum for that period 15,16,17 .& 18 they're all hixxy & druid tunes...which are on the harder side ,the releases after theses revert back to what was being put out prevoious to 15 . So imo this mirrors the 3-4 months that it was popular for out in the raves and clubs .

Bwahaha... I did the exact same thing! I cannot stand that "gabber" breakdown.

Totally agree. There's no remix of this track that does anything for me.

Body Slam is definitely the most overplayed and overrated track for me. It's not a bad track but I wouldn't be sad if I never hear it again.
