Some of you people have probably noticed that ever since IMOdownload went down, alot of tracks (both Good and the very bad. Funny, TiD and Junodownload both have their share of crap months before imodownload went down) will be forever lost.
I used to buy a bunch of tracks from artist I've never heard of before, and since I still got the tracks, I was thinking of making a database for them. I was also thinking of making samples/previews of said tracks.
Would that be a good idea? Some of the stuff are too good to be lost forever.

People would still accuse you of being a dirty pirate.

A database like a discogs list of the tracks? Then that's fine if you want to spend your time.
If you're actually making that material available for free (whole tracks not samples) then not a good idea.

After reading the threads about Trackitdown I kinda had the same thought about all the unknown, but still good, stuff that would get lost like with imodownload. I say, just be happy you were there, and share like a Dj would. :)

If you just put samples up then it's a good idea. Perhaps you could get some momentum behind the project and get peoples help to track all the artists down and get full permission to put up entire tracks?

I kinda get what you mean, but the real shame is that the tracks are not available to people anymore - not that they're not being cataloged.
