honestly!can anyone give me a technical (or otherwise) definition of what 'old skool' means? I generally took it to mean basically happy hardcore anthems from about 5-10 years ago, but now here in Ireland ironically its the new 'in' phase and we hear "and now..for the next 2 hours on your favourite dance station in Ulstrer & Leinster..it the 'old skool' " And what is actually played does contain happy hardcore yes, but, it also it just generally 'old' dance hits from early 90's ... So guys, put my mind at rest, cos booy does it ache!    
The climax of my breakdown is even more satisfying than an orgasm "WHO GIVES A FUK..WHO GIVES A FUK???"

I usually refer to "Old Skool" as to released legally more than 5 years ago. But thats just my opinion.

old skool was the hardcore produced between 88 and 93 before the introduction of happy hardcore. there is also old skool in a happy hardcore sense, which refers to the classic happy hardcore from around 94, 95 often played by dougal and vibes.

Goto IMO records, click on the links between hardcore and oldskool and listen to the type of records that are for sale in both, it will give you a better feel for oldskool.

i always take old skool to mean any dance or rave music that was released back in the early - mid 90s. doesnt have to be hardcore, it could be anything the dnb tune chopper or the prodigys charly for example
