If anyone uploads tunes to YouTube be wary of anything by the Fat Controller as he will report it. He uploads all his own and doesn't like others sharing his work.

Further to the original post he, Jay Folly, (Fat Controller) replied to an email from me and explained why they remove vids from YouTube:
Hi Aaron
We, like many other artists, have been removing unauthorised uses of music from sites like YouTube for a while now. In the past 4 months I have personally removed almost 100 videos of various mixes of "In Complete Darkness"
Under publishing & copyright law we have to be seen to be "Protecting" our work, otherwise the copyright will be cancelled. Every time a video is played on any medium there is a royalty due, and unless you have control of the listing you do not get the royalties due.
In one instance, a video posted around 12 years ago had amassed just over a million plays, that would incur ?1,000 of royalties.
I fully understand people wanting to put collections on YouTube, but without ownership of the copyrighted material or a licence of use it is not possible. the way forward for collections on YouTube is to make playlists of the tacks from the original artist/label posts.
If you want any advice on what you can and can't use then drop me a message by email or on Facebook

Surely this isn't true. I've never heard anything like it before.

I watched an articled on Gawker/IO9 where they talked about this. Copyright is never lost because you don't defend it. Trademarks do however need this enforcement.
so Willy, you could send him this article. Even tho it's american law, I think copyright laws are the similar in the US and UK

I took the offending video down, wasn't worth all the hassle, didn't want one vid bringing my whole channel of 500+ uploads crashing down.
Just means I'm restricted on upload length until August.
I just wish they would email me before issuing a complaint to YouTube.

People believe what they believe, I had a conversation with Fat Controller on the phone a few months back about royalties on Youtube and talked about that you can collect publishing money for any upload just like a regular radio station, but he was convinced this the way you mention in the email was the only way to handle it, which I didn't argue with him because at the end of the day it's his tune so he can do what he wants, just think he is missing out a little by not collecting royalties on any play (just like a regular radio station does).
I also see a similar sort of thing with online radio stations, people commit to play stations they might have some sort a brand name (outside online) but no one is actually listening too, or only 10 people when there is a live show on (if the DJ playing promotes it). People believe what they want to believe :)
I remember walking into Ministry of Sound for a meeting around 2006 and they told me their listening numbers and happyhardcore.com radio (at the time) was 3 times bigger than the entire MoS online radio :)
