well, if you've made a track for the main automation - make sure you pick "song" vs "pat" then got to where you want to fade out to/from. Right clik on the knob, and go to the event editor.
Match up the bars and presto.

What I do is I make patterns for individual automations that begin on the first measure of the first bar and then use them as needed, it helps me repeat things easier if I need to do them more than once... And it also makes it easier to find your way around if you need to edit the automation - you know just where to look easy. :)

But to making one pattern is sorta "neater". I dunno, its more about, rather than the way you use the proggy.
