does vinyl thickness vary with each release, or is it consistant? cuz some of the ones people are listing as real thick or thin I have the opposite problem

The thicker the more expensive.

I think that thickness depends on the company pressing it, and how much the label is willing to pay.
No doubt, if you want better quality vinyl, then you'll want to shell out the extra cash.

Okay, um, that's probably an issue with your decks. Not enough torque, maybe?
Totally random note, I have to disagree with technology - not even money seems to have anything to do with it - it just seems to be a decision made by the pressing engineers. I have slammin' vinyl records that are flimsy as anything and then a whitelabel of sunshine (on a rainy day... there's about 10 sunshines. :P) that's at least a half-centimeter thick.
