In the school I go there aint many HHCs, but there are loads of pop lovers. And the thing that pisses me off is that they actually think its cool to listen to "S Club Juniors" or "West life". I mean c'mon! You'd have to be mentaly sick to be able to listen to them!
I asked them if they could picture them selves when they're about 19, in there little car, pumpin away listenin to WEST LIFE!. They actually sed yes, being serious.

The general theme of this thread, if I read it correctly, is "to each his own." And like silver said, people hate what they don't understand. So I think that they have every right on earth to enjoy their pop music, as long as they enjoy it - don't hate it just because you, yourself, don't see the appeal.

Don't forget our good friends at the media:D

If it wasn't for them we wudn't be lucky enuff to have raves seen as evil

In complete darkness we are all the same, it is only our knowledge and wisdom that seperates us.

The majority are highly affected by peer pressure. They are too mentaly weak to appreciate what is not commonly accepted.

Rock music suffers in a similar way, the whole 'mosher' stereotype, the media could be referred to as parasites, when attaching themselves to the rock scene, because they are actually turning rebellion into conformity (blah blah, we hate townies, I can't wear adidas , my friends will laugh at me ,etc) feeding off the money that the previously untapped market commercialized counter culture can bring.

Hardcore doesn't suffer this mass media infection, but there is quite a few bad stereotypical ideas , i completey disagree with, such as the pillhead, scallie ravers, the favoured music of the north, too happy = kids music, and other such stuff.

And, is it just me, or what ? I've noticed that the majority of pop and commercial dance music fans easily fall for sweet choir like (usually female in commercial dance) vocals, and not the background tune itself? One thing worth noting, about the mass dislike of hardcore, is that many like to sing, which may explain why bang!'s shooting star appears to be the only hhc track most people , who are my younger sister's age know of. Make of it, what you will.

in response to all the "I hate pop", etc... opinions, I welcome you to hate it, but please at least appreciate it. All music serves a purpose, or else it wouldn't exist. When I see people listening to the newest band, or feeding on the latest trend, I thank god those people have found something dull and stupid to latch themselves onto. All the pop music pacifies the people who don't care to look for more. In the same sense, be happy you had the common sense to specialize your interests and find something that better accomodates you. Now think, would you really want all the empty headed morons at a rave?(like there aren't enough already). I love pop music for the fact that it keeps these people out of my hair.

and as for why people don't like hardcore? I say ignorance. Why? because I used to dislike it too, until I gave it a chance and learned more about it. people only see the super happy exterior, which to an outsider, looks pretty freaking irritating. you gotta sink in your teeth to enjoy the apple, and not many people care to give it a chance.

No sir, that's paper.

Where i live, i get ripped all the time because i love HHC. I agree with the "each to their own theory" but it seems like everyone else does as well................ apart from me listening to HHC.

To be honest, i know of only about 3 people who are as passionate about HHC as me.

When i ask people "whats wrong with HHC" i get a response like "its fairground music" or "its pillhead music", and they look at me like im sum sort of alien.

I mean come on, all my mates are into the cheesy commercial dance music and "chart music" but i dont rip them. I think people don't like it because all they are, are sheep, that follow a trend, and if hhc suddenly became commercial and in the charts (god forbid!) then they would listen to it and rip ppl who don't.

To be hhc is gods gift and i couldn't live without it. And all iv got to say is
LEAVE ME TO IT!

In the countries close to holland, it's because during the hardcore (gabber) hype, a lot of people started to call happy and normal hardcore just hardcore. No difference was made, and the people who were into the normal hardcore usually didn't want to be seen as part of a large group ravers, but as gabbers. they had there own culture, music, dresscode and don't really resemble the typical raver you guyz know. The 2 groups didn't realy get along, and most gabbers started to dispise happy, cuz the media and sertain people exploited happy to make a lot of money in no time and make the gabbers look like somthing they're not. Nowadays, only the gabbers remember happy around here, and they ain't fond of it, although the hostility died down a lot. After the hype was over, people realised there wasn't really a market for happy anymore and stopped producing it.
So now everyone around here that can remember happy has eather misconceptions about it, or hates it to the bone (except 4 me).
Too people outside these countries it's usually eather the lack of individualism (doing wath the rest does), the energy and vibe that is typical to the style doesn't suit them or just a bad taste in music.

well, in my opinion i think HHC lost its singularity(trancey f*ing fashion)...much of its hard part lost during time, and i mean BREAKBEATS mainly, with some other stuff too

..if you ask any junglist/ette out there,he/she 'll say to you that it's too happy or(more often)that it's not so hard without breaks...that's why most of the oldsklers preferred jungle/d&b and the rave scene divided..
some(including me) accepted the early gabba sound of it,and continued to enjoy its unique melodies but nowadays has been deformed much
..many saying, this is evolution, but i think(and outsiders too) it ,as homogenizing

..sometimes you got to stick to the ancient ways, the oldskool ways...
