Hi folks
I am planning to make some free CDs of my tunes to give away at parties etc
Just wondering about mastering, (what it is) and what should be done etc
Should I EQ the tracks or anything?

After looking here - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_mastering - it seems that an amateur like myself doesn't really need to worry about it. Just maybe apply EQ and/or compression!

I'd only really worry about mastering it if it's for performance or for a professional CD.
Just make them sound as nice and clear as you can, certainly EQ so it sounds nice on your system, but don't over do it. If it's mixed alright you should be fine!

In short what you should do in your case in mastering:
Polish the sound with EQ. Remove problems and adjust the high/low end to taste. Don't fall for the trap to to push the sides too much!
Use compression to get the right grove/punch and then limiting (or gentle saturation) to archive the desired loudness.
Compare with other tracks from other artists you like and adjust accordingly. Be aware that Hardcore and EDM in general is frickin loud and you might not get that with a dodgy mixdown without ruining your track.
Compare your own tracks on the CD. Try to be consistent.
Check with different sound systems how the track translates. Headphones, stereo, earplugs, big system.
