Hi i live in adelaide australia and really love happy (mostly new stuff like scott brown. . btw dissappear by storm, euphony is awesome!!!)

But happy hardly ever gets played here at all as far as i can tell. . (i havent actually been ravin or anythin yet that kinda why im askin this)

I want to go raving but only if there is music there that i like. . What other music genres have the same kind of sound as happy but are more popular??

ANybody wanna donate some cash to the "Turntables for Gav fund?" ~ If you don't, you could be to blame for the demise of happy hardcore!

^^ good luck trying to find a mainstream genre that offers what hardcore does. I tried a while ago and I was sorely disappointed. Truth be told, if you try to appreciate a certain type of music as a substitute for another (instead of on its own merits) you're bound to be disappointed. Having said that, though, there are times when I've found well-played hard NRG can be a halfway-decent substitute for freeform. As for any mainstream genre substituting for HHC, forget it. None of them have the combination of cheese, melody and speed-driven energy that HHC has.

To the best of my knowledge, Adelaide isn't really a happy hardcore scene. Even if it were, I doubt if it would be that big that it would be played in clubs and clubnights; it would strictly speaking be a rave-only genre.

ANyway i'm goin to my first rave at the end of year (biggest in adelaide) and Sharkey is gonna be there as well as a few other hardcore dj's...

You need to listen to more freeform

Generally, it's less vocal than HHC and isn't as cheesy (mostly). Even when it's a bit brighter, freeform generally tends towards 'uplifting' rather than 'happy', and when it's darker it can be anything from mind-f_cky psychedelic to downright angry. That's what I love about freeform - it's hardcore without boundaries.

Oh, and it's also great rave music, ie because it shares the same basslines as HHC, it's just as fun to dance to. Go to Nu Energy and listen to some more samples and you'll see what I mean.

Enjoy your first rave

Did you go to Twice as Nice last weekend?

http://www.happyhardcore.com/forums/topic.asp?ARCHIVE=&TOPIC_ID=9541

I played here... yeah does not seem like there is a big hardcore scene in adelaide but there are certainly up for it... I played hardcore and the room went mental... tones of people said they loved it.... everyone one dancing hard... MC spitin out lyrics like there is no tomorrow... even Lab 4 came upto me and said that was a bangin set...

Adelaide is certainly ready for a hardcore scene.

I am in Adelaide this summer and it has a great raving community. I can play hard trance, freeform and right trhough all the different sounds including the breaks to down right hard n dirty. i had a great time at Enchanted last year on the microphone and had a great response as well as getting really twatted with all the punters.

For me this makes Adelaide a unique place to party. i think that it is one of the most openmided citites in the world to play in. It enables me to not have any structure or boundaries, and as long as you play it party. Adelaide loves the lot!!

All of us Jocks from Paul Glazby,Karim right through to myself and Kevin Energy love to goto Adelaide as we can really bosh it up and party hard there. Though my freeform/Hardcore often gets tagged as Hard dance.

I am sorry that you have not had too much Happy music over in Adelaide, and i am sure Scott will get there soon when his diary permits him. You are lucky to live in Adelaide as you can find out about so many other types of music on your doorstep.

Never compromise though on what you like!!!! If you like happy then dont force yourself to go to other events just because you wanna go out. You will lose interest with it all easier if you compromise that.
I know its frustrating for you not having your favorite D.J play your favorite music. Perhaps you could save up and go to Sydney for a mad weekend out. There is a big happy scene over there???

Anyway good luck finding what you want, and be happy

and see ya at Enchanted and at The trinity on Xmas night

Peace

jon

Yeah keep your music tastebuds open minded, as most people that know me on this forum know that I Honestly like ALL music, from classical to metal. ALL music has sounds that will appeal to different people. Don't turn the oppertunity down untill you have given it a fair go. (and by a fair go I mean a couple of listens at least). Obviously I think some music is utter crap, but I can understand why it was made ("Usually" I mean why anyone would remix Gigi D'Agostinos - I'll fly with you beats the hell outta me! you aint gona beat the simplicity of the original BUT thats just my oppinion, and most hardcore heads will probebly love it) and there will be people out there that it will appeal to.

Just don't go somewhere closed mind - Give the music a chance and have a little faith in it, who knows you might find you LOVE it, you might not but at least you've experienced something different .

That's the fault of certain local promoters who shall remain nameless. Really, it's just a manifestation of the fact that a lot of partygoers don't really bother with specific genres, so "Hard dance" is a useful little moniker for promoters to let people know that the music is a bit harder than the norm. Put "freeform" on the flyer (especially for a larger party) and you're likely to get a lot of the less-musically-anal ravers saying, "What the f***?!"

has been wuite a while since i came onto happyhardcore.com ...
I'm goin to my first rave <enchanted> this december . . too bad ya couldn't' make it Sharkey but Brisk will do just fine :)
i think freeform is a maajor up & coming thing in adelaide everyone i know seems to love it but it still isn't played as often as hard house

I have no idea what the difference is between UK hardcore & freeform except that freeform is a little more 'serious' and less vocally cheesy..

thanks for the help

Turn on happyhardcore.com radio every chance you get, you will get to taste all of what hardcore has to offer. I just started getting into hardcore a few months ago and my spinning has improved immensly since I found what I like to play. Happyhardcore.com has been my gateway to the world of hardcore seeing as how its kind of a novelty item around here. Freeform is less "bouncy" and doesnt have "uppy" breaks like hhc. Its breaks are more of a low bassy "grr" drawn out a bit longer followed by really fast sounds.

Thats what I've noticed anyway.

...do it hardcore...

^^ keep an eye out for a promo CD that I think is winging its way down to Adelaide called "Lord Of The Raves IV". It's mainly trancecore and freeform of the more uplifting variety, but it gets more serious near the end.
