right nick ( arnold ) i think this takes the piss and im not sure if u'd b interested but on Kiss on sky digi ur original of shooting star was annouced as "a classic hard house record made by bang!" why can't tv just face it and say a ha[ppy hardcore classic by bang? i'd sue for deformation of character personally but i know ur pretty laid back n laugh it off . But i was offended when it was called a "hard house classic recorded by bang " or woteva they actually said. I think it just takes the piss that sall sorry for wasting ya time.

but if happy hardcore was announced on tv maybe it'd go mainstream. i like it underground.
maybe the reason they beat around the bush and won't call it what it really is, is because when mommies and daddies hear the word "hardcore" they think of "bad things" (i.e.: porn, etc.). these parents don't want such trashy things on tv that just ruin their kids' minds, do they? which is why tv is soooo censored in the US. and what overprotective parent wants their kiddies searching for something called "hardcore"...
i say let them be ignorant! at least we know better!

This was discussed on USH.net

basically it's down to the fact that the original press release mentioned the "hard house" thing ( coz they don't have a clue ) and therefore the music video channels said the same ( coz they also don't have a clue ).

Not actually intentional methinks.

OK, well theres been some good points here, esp. the point about the word "hardcore".

Whatever happens in the future, to the authorities, police, parents, etc etc.... hardcore will always mean, drugs, loud music, and rebellious kids, we cant get round that. I even put my hands up to some of the blame, because even we called our selves the Smart E's and had Oscar on the front of our sleeve smoking a joint.

So... hardcore, whether we like it or not, to the mass public, has a bad rep, and I say, so what... who gives a stuff. I don't do E's, I aint mashed out, but I love hardcore and the vibe that goes with it so stuff the lot of them that arent educated.

As for the hard house labelling, well we mustnt forget that the stimulant DJ's (B&H) did a mix for the tidy trax album, and tidy trax do hard house. So the link is there.

I'm not fussed about them calling the original hard house. As Ive said in countless posts, Shooting Star will always have its roots in hardcore cos thats where it came from. You can say what you like, but you can never change history, so just enjoy the thought that WE know where it came from.

Having said that, they may be referring to the stimulant mix on that tidy trax album anyway.

As for them dissing Jo, although Ive never seen the interview, I have it from a reliable source that they said "the original vocals were too hard and fast, so we toned it down a bit for our version", or words to that effect. That's not really dissing Jo and is totally correct really. And besides, Jo isnt allowed to record that track for anyone else for at least another 6 months, because of her agreement with NG.

As for hardcore fading out, well I'm still writing for the scene, and if there's another of my tunes going to go like STR, then it'll be here first. Good songs dont belong to one scene, and no one can stop a song getting popular. I get mails from people asking about Shooting Star and they have never heard of hardcore. They've heard STR somewhere and traced it to get a copy. That doesnt mean they're going to buy a Bonkers CD, they like that song only.

You cant have a track and say..." right, we'll make sure this doesnt get played anywhere too much just in case lots of people like it and want to buy it, cos then it'll get popular", that just doesnt make sense.

However, if Flip and Fill make Shooting Star a huge success, think of all the people that will want to hear the hardcore versions. That's got to be good for the scene, and helping us to prove to people that what we do here is potential hit material, and to be taken more seriously.

Tell me the last time you visited a website or read a magazine with a section on "Latest Hardcore Releases". Once in a blue moon in M8 mag if yer lucky.

But here..... in our scene.... we write hit material whether they like it or not. So if they dont listen or like our scene, stuff em I say.

tata

Nick.

Some good points made i guess. But u must admit when hardcore gets overlooked its anoying. i dont want happy hardcore 2 be TOO popular but a bit of recognition for the stuff the scene produces would b nice....I agree bout the point bout the image of "hardcore" as a name that was a good point well made.

Agreed w/ Nick

although the main problem w/ "hardcore" isn't the mass-market image per-se, it's within the dance scene itself. See: Mixmag, Ministry etc.

The situation is improving tho, something I didn't imagine happening tbh
