at the moment all americans like either rock or metal or punk and alot of the UK is liking all the american rock imports.
but I know America started house in the mid 80s in chicago and in the late 80s techno in detroit (not sure my facts are right there) but why do americans hate techno nowerdays?
I think UK garage is crap IMO

that's a pretty broad statement.. there are lots of people who like techno..
just becuase nu-metal is the "popular" thing to like in america, doesn't at all mean that they all listen to it.. just angry teenagers who wanna be 'different' :)

I'm really not that fresh with my knowledge of that continent, but last time I checked the USA was a rather large country, with a rather large, widely spread population. With that in mind a statement like "all americans like either rock or metal or punk" really doesn't hold water. All you need to do is look at, say, the SoCali scene and the strong hardcore following that exists there (thanks to Paulina Taylor and others) to know that hardcore isn't dead in the US.

first off chief, like Simon mentioned, you think you could have seen by the amount of people on here from the US that yes we do indeed love our hardcore...some of us for many years
do a little research before starting questions like this...
i just hate the commercial crap that gets played on the radio, i miss the good club music from the early 90s that used to fill the airwaves...
and i also don't care for most of the "rock" (if that's what it's called now), i personally think rock died in the late 80s when alternative began (and that didn't last too long either)

i love hardcore, wiihout it it be a big ball of depression (taken over by the massive amounts of emo i listen to!)
i hate "nu metal". everyone here is obsessed with either numetal, or hiphop(which has gone down the shitter since all this blingbling shit came into it!)
but hardcore is my one passion, and there are quite a few hardcore lovers here. and also a few labels.
all in all, we love our hardcore.
Oh man, I hope I didn't brain my damage...

I know his statment is a bit wrong, but I understand what he means.
For instance, in school I feel like such a reject coz I'm just about the only one thats really into hardcore. I *feel* (as opposed to know) like I'm the only guy that likes hardcore. When I worked at the santaury in the hardcore arena it changed my out look soooooo much. There were just so many people, loving the music as much as I did, and into it even more than I am. This help put everything back in perspective.
It's all relative. In school it feels like punk/ska nu-metal is all that exists and it's just the best thing ever (tm) then I see this raves, and it's like - nu-metal? who cares about that shit :D
(not a diss at nu-metal *really* :P hehe)
But yeah I do quite often feel like such a reject so I know how he feels.

i'm finding a lot of my peers are getting into more of the "techno" stuff (anything with a beat is considered techno in lay terms i guess). i've turned several people onto hardcore that i didn't think would have been receptive to it =)

I think dance music in general has grown in popularity of late, and it
seems nu-metal is starting to die out.

Yup, I have em all cept for 5 & 9. But to be honest, most Americans don't even know what you're talking about if you mention hardcore music, and if you mention a rave they'll basically just smirk at you like you're some retard. House, prog, trance, techno and breaks are actually very popular depending on the location you're looking at. Dnb has a decent following in specific areas as well, but with hardcore it's basically a city to city thing rather than there being a true scene to be part of, so you either have hardcore or your just sh*t out of luck. For some reason I like it that way a little bit though, because it means whenever I introduce someone to hardcore they're usually blown away by how fresh the sound is compared to everything else their being fed.
It's true a lot of the older generation really don't like techno, however the youth of America have fully grasped the fact that electronic music is not a fad and that most scenes are way more respectable than the current pop scene or the likes (ugh). I'm just lucky I live where we do have a scene (and the most popular hardcore record store in the US), cause its very common to hear about hardcore heads stranded in the middle of the US with no access to the music cept the net. I hope hardcore can get more recognition eventually but it's not something I worry about too much.

I love me some hardcore.. happy, dark, it doesn't matter.. it's all swell...hardcore goes in waves here in my city.. you'll see a lot of it for a few months, and then it'll disappear for another few months..but before too long..it's always back. :)

I own every release in the Bonkers series.
As stated before, some of us have been supporting hardcore for YEARS. It just does not get the same exposure here as it does in the UK.
