Just lately, it seems to happen every year people have been disscussing slowing down hardcore for various reasons and i just wondered what everyone else thought about it.
So far the reasons for it were
1) Its easier to dance to
2) It sounds better
3) It would be more commercially acceptable.
i think this
1) I manage to dance to it without drugs so evryone should be able to
2) Matter of personal opinion and if u like it whats the problem
3) **** commercialism if the scene survives i want it to survive on its merits, not just coz it sounds like Hardhouse.

My thoughs:
1) Its easier to dance to
bollocks to that, you can dance to it anyway!
2) It sounds better
Again, bollocks in my book. But I suppose it depends on you're own taste.
3) It would be more commercially acceptable.
******* THAT!!!! Hardcore must NEVER go commercial. End of.

Well im so glad that other people side with my opinions. Quite a few people i chat to about the state of the scene are getting to technical, and these people anit DJs or producers just ravers.
I dont want it to slow down, just to stick as it is.

**** slowing it down...if anything..lets speed it up! =p |
silver |
happy hardcore with the exception of speedcore and gabba I feel should sit at 160-185 BPM always. I normally DJ at about 175-182BPM (I have an effect machine that can tell me my BPM) |
Rotis |
Hehe speedcore forever! 400 bpm! =))
But yeah.. Screw commercial!!!
Hardcore will never die! |
Soren |
Personally I love 170+ BPM, It livens things up nicely ^_^ But I have to admit that I do have trouble dancing that fast (Not that I want it to change). I am just getting to old I think :) Maybe I need to start taking E again and get myself back into shape!!!
|
aznwasian |
I personally like anywhere from 160-190. anything faster is hard to dance to. anyhting slower is stupid.

Slowing it down would be a crime.. and if it went commercial I'm sure the governments would find something bad about it "Teens listen to it while on drugs... Happy Hardcore is concidered drug paraphanalia(sp?)"
If they can do it with glowsticks they can do it with our music.
(the previous statement is appearently true in the states, so says an article I came across)
down with commercializing!
Keep it fast!
keep it real!!!
*Sounding like a protester... scary*

1) No point, you'll probably be too drunk to dance with the rhythm in an hour anyway!!!
2) It doesnt sound better it sounds worse
3) Do we care??
I say bollox to these things 'cos as long as the scene survives i dont give a damn!!!

1) Some people will find it easier to dance because their r pansies, but real hardcore ravers can dance to it so if u get the hang of it, any will. People r too used to dancing to house & garage.
2) It will certainly not sound better. Hardcore has kept its speed for years and if it is slowed down, then it will not be hardcore anymore. It will develop into another type of music and real hardcore will fade away. So **** that.
3) Commercialism is the biggest threat to any underground dance music. If the scene has survived for this long then it has survived through its quality and popularity. Hardcore must never be commercialised or the scene will get seriously ****ed up!
Look at was happened to garage. Its shit now, whereas 4 years ago, underground speed garage was alright. Now its knowed as uk 2-step garage- shit!!
Hardcore will never die!!!!!!!!

i like my stuff quite fast, if you pitch hhc down now, that slow kickdrum will sound like crap. if you brought back total breakbeats, and slowed it down, t'wouldn't be that bad tho

hardcore needs to be fast or there is just no point slow it down and it loses its nature, i for one love fast musik of all kinds =P

If you slow hhc down, it would sound c**p blasting out the stereo of your car. It would sound like some sh** house song and we don't want that.

i dunno about you guys but i can't play hardcore at it's right speed,it doesn't sound right,i've tuned my decks to +3 so it sounds a bit faster. the bottom line, the faster, the better,up to 185 at least!!! |
Heist |
Jeez! Hardcore has never been in danger of commercialisation. Here's Johnny was number one on the charts for a few weeks back in 95' and thats about it here in australia for hardcores commercialism.
Its too intense and fast for the masses so keeping it fast is the best plan...

Heist: It was actually national charts for 6 weeks |
Lusive |
i like most happy hardcore around the 175/180 mark. i reckon 185 and 190 can sound a little too fast depending on whether its bouncy hardcore (where it can sound better) or more epic hardcore like innovate and unique and stuff like that. so i say dont slow it down and dont speed it up.
and the statement about hardcore sounds better slower is a bit generalised dont you think.. maybe give some examples
and if slowing down hardcore means it will be commercially acceptable.. then f**k that.. listen to hard house if hhc is too fast for ya.
but does it have to slow down or speed up.. i mean i like it how it is and i liked it how it used to be and i'm guessing i'll like it wherever it goes. just DON'T go commercial!!!!

i suppose the styles of hardcore can affect the speed - true happy hardcore sounds good @ 170 ish,but the deep hardcore like marc smith and tekno dred doesn't sound right unless it's a bit faster, and also, about hardcore becoming commercial, lets just say i used to like garage till that became commercial and i'm not the only person who thinks that.we wouldn't want that to happen to hardcore would we???

If Hardcore becomes commercial I am foing to leave the scene I once had an argument in a forum about someone who wanted Happy Hardcore to be played on Radio One. What a complete tw** all I can say is that he thought he would be the kiddy of the forum but everyone there just told him that he was a prick.
Thoughts please...

One of the best parts of Happy Hardcore is that it isn't commercial, the only places you can listen to it, is in clubs. So you build yourself during the week, waiting for the weekend to go clubbing.
If Happy Hardcore went commercial (god forbid), it would end up getting alot slower, that itself would be a crime.

I think the closest hhc has got to comercialising was when one of force and styles' tunes came out. I think it was heart of gold??
|

Remember in europe happy hardcore was commerical, I walked in McDonalds somewhere in Europe around 95/96 and happy hardcore was playing. Dune and scooter got into the charts in Europe...
I wouldn't mind more people at parties and events and more people buying records etc... BUT I don't want some pretty bimbo on TV or radio talking about it like it's the latest trend and all these Brintney Spears converts become ravers... |
Hughes |
Scooter got in the charts in 95/96, same time as when Ultrasonic got in the charts.

See here in the states u can't even get that...no hardcore anywwhere...at a rave in canada maybe, but as far as i know, unless you go to california where there's a somewhat thriving happy hardcore scene, you're pretty much stuck with streaming radio or the occassional rave which you have to go on a 7-13 hour drive to go to canada..
PLEASE GET SUM HHC DJ'S IN NYC!!!!

No but seriously, does anyone know any promoters in nyc? I always talk to kids at parties in NY and EVERYONE AND I DO MEAN EVERYONE says they LUV happy hardcore...but they don't play it!!! I went to this one party and there was a dj who played three happy hardcore songs and everyone went nuts!!!! grrrr

if you slow HCC down it defeats the whole purpose of it... i actualy PREFER dancing to it over trance or house or anything else... it just feels more natural... we kant komercialice it ... it would b corrupted... HCC is so pure and beautifull that if it bkame popular and all the ppl started listining to it bekause i was popular it wouldnt b HCC no more... the love would b gone... we kant let that happen
alice...? who the fuk is alice? ::dum dum dum dum:: |

I say that anyone who says Happycore is un-danceable just can't hang. :) It is VERY danceable!!!!!!!
I feel your love.....it's pushin' me higher, I feel the energy, burnin' like fire.....:) |

Hardcore is happy because you CAN dance to it. The slightest change of speed and pitch is acceptable, but anything else is criminal.
