I'm thinking of throwing together 1998-2001 era mix of some classic trance stuff but i have literally tons of the stuff so i can't even begin to start thinking what to include! I tend to sway toward the Rank 1/Airscape/Matt Darey sort of stuff when i dig the tunes out but want variety too. What sort of tunes would you lot want to hear?
Triquatra
X-Cabs - Neuro '99 Remix
Timo Maas Der Schieber (Rapid Eye remix)

Which funnily enough is on my initial list!
Excellent choices :-)

I only left Junior School in 1998 (age 11), so I have literally no idea.
I do love trance though (although my knowledge is miserable) so looking forward to this.
On a separate note, I gave that Eurobeat mix another listen today - my God is that crazy stuff addictive.
djDMS
That stuff should be illegal - you know you shouldn't touch it but once you try it you just can't help wanting more.
It's the musical equivalent of crack!

I'm the same age as you but i was listening very actively to Trance from 1999 to 2001 and know all the classics and many others so age dosn't really matter much.
Anyway in reply to the original question, unless you are actually going for all the really obvious tunes then definately avoid the likes of Airwave etc, sickeningly over played.

That's why i'm asking for suggestions, save me knocking out something that sounds like a Gatecrasher CD!

lol, mate, I don't think I was even listening to any music whatsoever at the age of 11. I have no memory of any of it, anyway. Had no one to influence me really. Was only secondary school when I started developing any tastes of my own, and that was just pop punk and stuff.

Final Fantasy - Set Me Free (not a N-trance cover)
Hard2Get
Where 98 is concerned you blatantly need to include Love Stimulation.
quote:Final Fantasy - Set Me Free (not a N-trance cover)
Sounds like a pop tune lol. 2002ish pop Trance actually. Well ahead of it's time in that respect.
Samination
if you want fast trance, there's always Final Fantasy - Controlling Transmission :)

yea ATB's mix for that album series was just simply incredible imo. a lot of great songs on there! sucks that i've misplaced the cover slip for the album, but the cd, case & booklet inside are still in tact!
btw just realized I lost the Tune! sign it came with. wtf was that about? was there really a tune! sign fad at these events???

Space Frog - Lost In Space '98
Push - Universal Nation (The Real Anthem)

well i know ppl say the word tune all the time, but i don't think it's necessary to wave around a sign with the word tune! on there as it was some glowstick lol
Hard2Get
Well that's where the word originated from i think. Now people just say it generally all the time.
I'm trying to search for the original and trance mix, but I think I might have to upload those myself
djDMS
Should be able to include something from just about everybody's suggestions, could end up with a decent mix here.
Despite having that 2-3 year period when i was totally obsessed with trance i must admit i missed the Final fantasy stuff, god knows why cos they did some great tunes. Only heard of them much later because of You're my angel.

Because it's not really part of the normal Trance genre i don't think. More Hard Trance, well 'Controlling Trancemission' at least anyway. So your not wrong to have missed them. I only heard of them when listening to mid 90's Hard Trance.

8D
ive allways really liked this tune
Hard2Get
Already suggested it, minus the link :P It's the absolute epitomy of Trance though imo, amazing tune.
djDMS
I remember that being one of the first i bought, top quality tune.
Lilley
can I make a radical suggestion and say more than one mix?
Lets go with 3
1) a fairly mellow progressive mix - stage one, know you love me, Be as one, positron, etc
2) upbeat progressive mix - push airwave yves deruyter et al
3) anthemy mix - armin & tiesto type stuff with veracocha throw in and what other people have been mentioning. 2 & 3 would be fairly close, but there is to much quality to cover in one mix.
djDMS
Good point mate, i'm having serious difficulty keeping the numbers down!

I'm not a major trance fan (I like some of it, hate some of it, definately don't follow it nor am I too clued up on old school trance) but....
My all time favourite trance song, and one of my favourite songs of all time in general (and I looked it up and it's from 99)
Watergate - Heart of Asia is another great one, nothing compared to carte blanche though.

like 4 x 15 posts is enough to give suggestions? there gotta be atleast 300 000+ trance tracks out there

I heard this song for the first time a few years back, absolutely amazing.

Back when it was new it really was amazing! As was Trance in general.
NekoShuffle
Really obscure one if you didn't play GTA3 back in 2001, this was a STORMING tune and got me into trance when I just left primary school.
Warnman

Omg, I suck!
I have always thought that the radio tracks in GTA 3 had been produced for this game only. This is my favorite track from Rise FM, NekoShuffle.
I can't believe it... what a mess!
Hard2Get
Oliver Lieb's production was well ahead of it's time.
During the beginning of the 2000's it was really popular to work with some Eurodance classic tracks (mostly in Hands-up and normal Trance). Most of it was boring tmo, but I think this Dutch Trance remake is very pleasurable.
2 Unlimited - No Limit (Push Trancendental Remix)

Andy Blueman makes some pretty amazing trance music :)

I did enjoy that, phobz, but it would be a great idea to read the OP before jumping in a thread.
