Tyujia I made the following mix today as a tribute and thanks to the amazing DJ Cotts for inspiring me to take up the decks and get into mixing hardcore. I've not received much feedback from posting mixes on here before, but I'm interested in people's opinions on my mixing and style, so any comments or suggestions are appreciated. I made a couple of mistakes with effects and am still working on getting the levels right for certain tracks, but I'm otherwise pretty content with how this came out. Enjoy the mix~

Warnman Nice mix!
Although I owe Ravine & Cotts my regained passion for Hardcore music, I think you should not overcome the temptation by trying to copy them. Do whatever your mind makes feel alright. Find your own way: you got the skills.
Archefluxx Nice one :) Having a listen

Nothing wrong with a tribute, though Im shocked that his bacon didnt make an appearance :P

Hope you keep mixing, thats a sick set up. The amount of lights there surprised you dont have epileptic fits or whatever lol
_Jay_ That is an insane set-up. Giving it a listen now mate. :-)

Edit: Very, very good mix indeed. Enjoyed it. Did I hear you say you've only been doing this a year? Good work.

DJ Ravine has never really been an influence on my mixing style. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a great DJ and a very charismatic, funny guy, but I only really paid attention to Cotts' style of mixing because it resonates with me and the way I want to mix. I actually didn't watch anything from him for most of last year because I was so focused on learning my own skill set, so I don't think I'm in any danger of copying him. I just wanted to let him know that he was the linchpin in my endeavours, and he said thanks for the video to me after I posted it to him on Twitter. :)

Aha, I'm a vegan so unfortunately that puts me at odds with Cotts' taste for fried pork :v

It has taken a little getting used to all four channels but it's amazing having a dedicated scratch deck as well as three other decks to mix with :D

Yep, only a year so far and I'm hoping my progress will continue if I can just get the damn levels right... such a pain in the ass fiddling with those as every track is different.

mixing different tracks is an art, unless you're a cheapskate like me using virtual dj, it's a steal :P

If you want to develope your own personal style, please continue. I would like to listen to more of such mixes.

I tried VDJ before I bought any gear and I absolutely hated it, didn't understand how it worked at all. Good thing it didn't put me off :P

Well, I'd say by definition that I already have my own style, no two DJs are alike even if one follows another closely. I do things very different to Cotts even if I still study his techniques on occasion to learn from them. I use the upfaders and drop the bass at the end of a phrase, whereas he tends to use the crossfader exclusively, and he doesn't scratch to my knowledge. :)

It's one of my favourite tracks and is great for getting a set going :)

I shop for my hardcore mainly on JunoDownload, but I also use IMODownload and TrackItDown to source tracks I can't find on there.

Alternatively, you can acquire it free, here:

You're quite the encyclopedia when it comes to newer Hardcore aren't you? It's all that finding music for your website that keeps you fresh.

Thanks, I think? :0

I wouldn't describe myself as an encyclopedia but I'm always thirsting for good hardcore and I do tend to search within recent years; I like a lot of stuff by AMS, Arkitech, Nemesis as well as the more upfront stuff like Michael Mansion and Darwin. :)

You may be a cheeky blonde and have some powerful mixing skills, but I believe the man was talking to me! :-)

I do try Matt. And the website definitely didn't hurt. Really should get that going again. But yeah, I'm listening to "new" Hardcore for eight hours plus a day, check trackitdown every day etc. The knowledge is improving, but nowhere near as good as a load of the other boys on here.
wong i get most of my tracks from free giveaways from producers, plenty has been given away for free to keep me goin for a bit. dont think i spend any more than a 20 quid a month on music these days.

Oh, my bad, haha >.>

Thanks to everyone who listened and commented, I really appreciate the feedback! :)

I'll likely be recording a reprise on one of my earlier mixes later this week, titled "Darker Side of the Core". Stay tuned for that as I'll post it on here too!

I've also redesigned my Youtube channel, hopefully it's still (if not more) easy on the eyes xD

Yeah, that's the one mate.

If people are interested, I bought this version a few years back as well:

http://www.chemical-records.co.uk/sc/downloadstore/release/6600

It was available on trackitdown, but seems to have disappeared.
