Started this because a) it feels like no one really pays attention to the normal Track Of The Day thread, and b) it'll be a good way to discover some Freeform gems that I don't know about (i.e. fcuking loads).
definitely one of my all-time favorites. The Douglas remix is pretty incredible too.
_Jay_
@Ken: Yeah man, definitely! It's fantastic. :-) It's another reason why I started the topic, too. Just to generally keep the Freeform visibility/discussion/activity as high as possible. :-)
P.V.C. is sick. Do you remember/know 35 Cycles that was also on that release? Fcuking MASSIVE.
I'm not going to lie, a few years ago I thought I had a pretty good handle on what freeform hardcore was, now it seems pretty much anything that isn't deemed super happy (i.e. UK hardcore) is classed as freeform. Personally I'm not fussed as I'm not one for pigeon holing every single track, but I am a little worried that it's turning into a 10 pointer on the buzz-word bingo.

I guess I must be guilty of this! I've not really been into Freeform for all that long, relatively, and without being familiar with it's heritage I'm kind of bound by the current definition.
Cyrax
Thanks , the full version has a lot more too it , rising acid , epic breakdown , I guess by definition I would call it Freeform Hardcore
Freeform for me , although shouldn't probably get into this debate is early Nu Energy, also Finrg , Hybridize , not forgetting earlier stuff like Helix and Fury and my favourite producer Lost Soul
But there's so much stuff that could be both , the genre is very diverse

awesome track that too man, got the vinyl and a tonne more when i got bitten by the kev energy bug a few years back.
his discs on the Hardcore Heaven CD's done it for me and tbh are the reason im still as into Hardcore today. Ive always been a huge fan of the trancecore sound since way back but when they repackaged it as freeform something changed and this incredibly fresh genre was born.
I always thought it was the change in mood that gave Freeform its identity, the constant change between happy and dark, uplifting and downright scary! That seemed to get lost in modern hardcore and was one of the reasons i loved the music so much. Combine this with the constant change in rhythm, 4/4, breakbeat, dnb, and it definitely deserves its name Freeform.

just because a track has a acid line or something that hard dance and freeform uses should be called freeform. even though I have been on the dubcore hate vagon for a while now, I still call it UK Hardcore in the end.
I know Im guilty of calling a few tracks for freeform before, but hell, alot of the makina (from spain) sounds more like uk hardcore a la JD-KiD (I wouldn't call Unforgettable a freeform track just because it's on a freeform album), so alot of stuff are interchangeable nowadays.

Yeah man, I don't think of Unforgettable as Freeform at all. It's basically just Trance at 170.

I don't agree with that at all. The way I see it is a lot of UK Hardcore from the past 5 years has taken some influence from Freeform.
I'll agree that some Freeform has become very similar these day with similar sounds from tracks gone by but there's still loads of original & out right bizarre stuff being produced which sounds like nothing else that's come before it, what it's all about I suppose.

The problem you have with genres is it's subjective, what one considers to be within the genre boundaries is different to another and it often depends where you first heard the sound and who introduced the sound to you. What's brilliant about Freeform is there's some freeform for everyone, there's freeform which provides an excellent gateway for people coming from UKHC but IMO, it's a shame to stop there, there is so much more to explore, there's plenty of stuff which sounds nothing like UKHC and it's flooding in from all over the world.
Just spotted on the Event page for the Japanese Event page for CODEX they have a link called 'freeform for beginners' with a load of youtube links to fantastic freeform tracks, a brilliant showcase of the 'other' freeform

I can't be bothered to debate with people but anyone who thinks new, accessible freeform is just UK hardcore without the cheese needs to realise that freeform came from German trance, hardcore didn't. The new melodic freeform has more in common with new and old trance (Douglas and A.B's new stuff sounds like hardcore take on Anjuna Beats, Mat Zo, Above & Beyond etc stuff) and labels like Nu Energy and GBT came from labels like Spaceflower, United Ravers and EDM. Why do you think Kev always plays these records when he does classics sets?
Call me a music snob (I am, I'm one of the most knowledgable people in this music) but people cannot talk about this and that unless they know their history. Its ju
See The Stars is true freeform, a hardcore record with very few boundaries. Anyone who was around in 96/97 knows this is where the sound came from, a desire to push hardcore that didn't fit into a nice little box. The new melodic freeform is that too...do you see anyone else making that style?

And you know aswell as everyone that how genres came to be is based highly on opinion.
Like, what was Sharkey? Was the originally a Hardcore or a Hard Trance producer? Obviously he was a MC at first, but if he was a Hardcore producer, his work would be Hardcore influenced by Hard Trance. If he was a Hard Trance producer... oh you know the drill.
So, you have more merit than me, but it still doesnt make you less of a besserwisser(a know-it-all) :P

Polaris by Aryx is probably the favourite from the past 3 hours spent catching up on Freeform.
Those melodies. Especially the melody at the start before breakdown and added on after the drop. Chills!!
Yeah, it's a really great track man. Remember hearing it before Thumpa signed it for Freeformania and have loved it ever since! Such a lovely piece (ooo errr!).
I'm still quite digging Party Hard, which today led me to this - Impact & Nomad - Voices - absolutely fantastic and underrated track. You have to hear it from start to finish to fully appreciate it I think, from the slow intro to the final drop.
What led me to listen to this is that I used Party Hard in one of my older freeform mix series which went under the name "Rebel Heart" and one of them opened with Voices (#5 to be precise :P). Should be plenty of stuff for you to preen in those mixes, Jay. ;)
The first mix got tons of praise and it's so nostalgic for me to listen to. If I dare say so, one of the best mixes I've heard, haha. ;)

Thanks for posting these, some beasts these...
That rebel heart remix mix is amazing. I like every single track on there. Just wondering. Can you tell me the name of the track at 7.44 with that guitar in. Brilliant track that... Thanks !
Unfortunately my freeform track of the day ain't on youtube and I'm not even sure it's actually freeform but I think I'd call it freeform. Frisky & Hujib - Shake. :D
I would love to play any of the newer ponder tracks (the freeformy ones atleast) in my mixes, but somehow I can't fit them in, music-wize (like I have a problem adding anything else :P)
Almost every tune I want to add to this thread just doesn't exist on YT. So annoying.
Ok it's sorta breakbeat/dnbish but "DJs Are Dogs" by CLSM feat. Stefan B, Lost Soul & Grob LeFrog. Massive, fantastic tune. It brings back so many late summer night memories from 2007 for me... Getting all nostalgic now... <3
EDIT: There's just not a single clip available online judging by my Google search. So I took it upon myself to upload a clip. Here, listen! :D

It's just, Lost Soul & Grob LeFrog - "DJs Are Dogs" , the CLSM feat. Stefan B is the other side of the Vinyl.
There is a SynthWulf remix which is a more powerful and aggressive track. Certainly more driving. But it doesn't have the epic, patient breakdown and build of the original.

Thanks mate , I've been making a few tracks lately and this is definitley one of my favourites , it's not for everyone though as some of my mates that like Freeform don't really like gabba , but I had to make a track which would really force someone into listening to some.
It was really hard getting the balance of going freeform > gabba > freeform in the track without making the last freeform part seem weak in comparison to the gabba.
I'll keep you posted when it gets released !

Narkotik has been working hard on his solo production skills recently, from what I understand. To sort of launch himself, so to speak, he put this tune up for free download. I think it's really good. Quite aggressive and moody. Good momentum. I like it.
