Personally think Gabber is better, hardstyle is like a weak brother of Gabber.. Does'nt come close in hardness and craziness..
I'm raw to the floor cause i love my hardcore.
You know the score and what i'm waiting for. Yeah bro it's banging hardcore!! |

hardstyle most of the times is just some weak gabber rip-off. the only difference between late 90's gabber and most hardstyle is the bpm level and that dumbass reverberating bass.
There is good hardstyle but it's just very hard to find. Only decent hardstyle I've heard are a few japanese hardstyle trax and one or two italian ones.

What's the exact difference?
From what I can tell, Hardstyle is just slowed down Gabba - from about 180bpm+ to about 140. Except Hardstyle keeps the noise but lacks the tunes you get in the commerical(ish!) Gabba and Hardstyle tends to have more and better lyrics? At least that's how it appears at raves...
I'm not a fan of Hardstyle, if nothing else it's just too damn s-l-o-w. Don't own any either.

I like both but I dont see where everyone is getting a link between the two styles? I see them as very different forms of music tbh in gabba it's the kick drum thats dominant and in hardstyle its the bass and they both have very different sounds and are made at different speeds. If you ask me hardstyle is more similar to hard trance being what gabba is to hardcore.

why the link is made? well, cuz 80% of the european hardstyle is actually covers of old gaber trax. Lots of oldskool gabber producers and dj's are now filling their pockets with hardstyle and jumpstyle producing and mixing at raves. just the general vibe that it had when it first came on was somethign in the line of "I'm a hardass, I wanna be hardcore but unfortunately I can't handle gabber". It's the retarded little brother of gabber. !GABBER 4 LIFE!

even if they do rip samples from old gabba tunes I still dont see the link other than the really hard italian stuff and that it just dont seem similar to me. You cant really knock any dance music for sampling as it goes on in all dance music.

Not that keen on hardstyle by itself but get some of the italian stuff pitched up to 45 and whack it over makina is tremendous sometimes sounds as if it was meant to be that way.
I think the reason people make the connection between hardstyle and gabba as a lot of the same producers make both.
To me gabba will always be a big part of hardcore cos i think the buzz it gives you plus the quality of people who attend gabba events are second to none so i definitely prefer it, but i wouldnt call hardstyle retarded jus gotta find stuff that works for you.

u don't see the similarity cuz u haven't heard a "johnny" (sorta like a chav) driving his seat ibiza down ur street and u heard a tune blasting through it's speakers that sounds like one of your fave tunes from back in the days but sounding like it's playing at half speed with it's bass f*cked beyong belief. It pisses me off to hear the razzle dazzle trax tune in hardstyle, same with the killing scum synths. u'd understand if u had my experience. !GABBER 4 LIFE!

I like gabber way much better than "hardstyle". There is some gabber that is very fast and hasa awesome heavier 4/4 bassline. There is some happy gabber tracks that i like.

A bunch of pubescent Chavs are standing on a street corner thinking they're hard.
A gang of Skinheads turn up. They're harder.
A chapter of real Hell's Angels pull up. Woops, now they really are Harder.
Finally a few Royal Marines jump out of an army truck.....
It's all relative......
Hardstyle aint in the same league as Gabba.

Theres nothing wrong with the boat those big holes help keep our feet cool. |

i personally prefer hardstyle. gabber is a bit in yer face. obviously when ur at a night out it's good after a build up of tunes but i could go to my decks first thing and mix up some gabber whereas hardstyle i could play anywhen and anywhere! i liked hardstyle before gabber and don't really know much about gabber but i'm starting to get into it so maybe my views will change
//Nathan D |
Phil_G |
I'd say gabber because alot of the hardstyle is either too slow or just not up to the standards i expect from a good track i like some japanese hardstlye fair enough but nothing can compare to the rush i get from gabber or hardcore (the heavier hardcore not upfront although i do get rush from upfront not the point though) so for me it has to be gabber.

That’s fair enough I guess the hardstyle scene over there must be very different to what it is over hear its very underground over hear rarely being played anywhere but free party's and is seen as something that has no connection with gabba. Still my opinions not changed I still like it and IMO tracks like Hardstyle & Acid are amazing and I enjoy listening to it as much as I do gabba the only thing I dislike about it is it's repetitiveness allot of tracks do sound too similar. http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?pid=573640&T=3549 |

Yes, a very famous DJ Pavo quote, hehe.
I like the speed of Gabba and you usually find a lot of great samples in Gabba/Hardcore. I like the bouncyness/dark synths used in most Hardstyle tracks, i've loved Hardstyle since it came about around 1998-2000 |

It's got nothing to do with that really, Hardstyle does have influences of Gabba/Hardcore but it really came about due to the sound of Hard Trance and European Hard House, it's not really about being the hardest, most of the tracks have a totally different sound altogether, so I definitely wouldn't call it weak.

the origin might be different but if you take into account the amount of material stolen from 90's gabber tracks you could sort of consider it a little bastards brother of gabber

1992-1997 Gabber pisses all over Hardstyle just like Hard House pisses all over UK Hardcore or 'sped up EDM with Dupstep and Trap influences' as it is now known |

Hardstyle used to be shite when it sounded like Hard Trance.
But now Hardstyle is pretty much trying to emulate Hardcore Gabber in a lot of ways. So I like both just as much. |
Sparki Dee |
Gabba for me! harder, faster and a lot heavier. Hardstyle sounds too slow, it actually sounds like someone is playing a time stretched 180 tune at 150 with the pitch still as it is instead of slowing down. To me it just doesnt sound right whereas Gabba has that flow, the speed and in my opinion has a lot more edge to the productions. |
