They're awesome, thanks. :)
I've been fooling around with some distortion and EQ effects too and so I think I have the hang of that. Cheers.

What do you guys use to change up the sample kick drum? Just the DAW or like a vsti?

i normally open 2 instances of the same kick & run one through a high pass filter to get the snappy sound you hear in uk hardcore.
the other i add distortion & run through a low pass filter to beef the kick back up, then compress together, but it all depends on the sound your after as to what technique works best for you

Do you do all that in like... Cubase? or something like Battery?
Where do I find these "filters?" Thanks for the help.
I want to create kick drum like these:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNXRHqnKBGY&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21NyqHx3mAA&feature=related I know there's slight distortion, but I don't really know where to go from there. I'm useing sample kicks from VEC vol.1.

It can be done in pretty much any DAW. Just get something like some TR-909 samples, and do some distorts on them. Just google "distort VSTs" and you'll find a bunch.

Oh, okay, there is a distortion tool in Cubase Studio 4. Will mess with it with a TR-909 sample.
Though, is there anything else I need to do besides the distortion to the kick to obtain that style of kick I'm aiming for?
