I gonna have to start to make some rules up on posting mixes here...

The purpose of a DJ mix or mix CD is not to give away free hardcore it is too promote your DJ skills.

Thus if you DO NOT own the copyright to 100% of the tracks in your mix:

1. Don't sell the CD's or mixes.
2. If you make promo CD's, making 30 CD's is fair given away for free.
3. Don't post the mix over 128k.
4. Dont post the track lists.

These rules are to protect hardcore and hopefully help hardcore sales.

What do people think?

There is no limit, but I think 30 is a fair amount to give away for promotion of your DJ skills.

I love the rules. We need them somewhere everyone can see (unless it's been pinned and I didn't notice). Too many people who post their mixes put up the tracklisting even though it's been told over and over.

I don't even think the selling should be told. That's just common sense.. But nowadays, I guess it's manditory..

What's the reason behind the quality (except for that it's a whole lot faster to download)?

i've never ever agreed with selling unlicensed cd's. illegal to the max. and the thing about the tracklists i've never understood your reasoning, but it's your rules and i've followed them. it's not that big of a deal, imo. rules are ok, nothing too outrageous. it's all good.

Sound quaility does not matter if your showing off your DJ abilities. I'm try to help people buy hardcore... Get those DJ's making demo's they want to sell licenced from the artists so both DJ and artists make some money and there is more hardcore for everyone.

I hav a question. Is it alright to state that one could IM them for a tracklisting or is that still against rules? Like.. let's say I made a mix. Would it be okay to say, "IM/MSG me if you care for a tracklist"?

I think that sounds fine to me. I dont see why posting a tracklistingis a problem but if there is a good reason for that then thats fine.

I think the most important thing is that you dont post higher than 128. thats more than good enough for people to have a listen to and it keeps the quality a lot lower than cd.

So i think that sounds good

i'm very pro mp3 but posting mixes of 192kpbs with tracklists is dodgy to say the least

Personally, I think hhc.com should REQUIRE tracklists attached to mixes. That way artists in the tracks that are mixed get proper credit; this way the tracks are anonymous.

Besides, it's counterproductive... people can easily get the names of the tracks from the track ID section. Rethink those rules, IMO.

I don't really understand the "30 CD's" thing, but still fair rules IMO.

I too agree with Kaffine. It's something that I've said time and time again. How the hell does not providing a tracklist to the mix someone is listening to "hopefully help hardcore sales?" It doesn't! In fact all you can be is hopeful that it'll help the producers because the listener will have no way to find out WHO to support!!!

Think about it. Why does anyone do promos anyways? To increase the listener base. Increased listener base = more sales. By giving people the opportunity to listen to music for free in a sub-perfect format (can we agree 128kpbs is less than perfect) it will encourage them to spend the money they saved on that new record, or that new compilation, or that new club. Could you even back yourself up on why knowing what you listen to hurts sales of it? I mean, if they are just promo mixes to show off DJ skill/selection, then no one would ever pay the artist anyway, so by not allowing tracklists you inhibit someone's ability to do what the DJ already did by owning the vinyl in the first place - support the artist. Get it? It's so simple I don't know why everyone doesn't agree.

I, for one, would love to post tracklists of my mixes. But Silver always stated it would get some artists asking for money. Although I don't see Scott Brown minding this when mixes are posted in his forum with a tracklisting.
