ok, cudnt really be arsed to read the whole of the post, and got the general gist of the arguments flying about by reading the first 2 pages ;)
ok, well. .
i doubt very much that the bonkers cds would even be in existance without sharkey, and (to a degree) hixxy wouldnt be as well known as he is now without sharkey (one word: toytown)
now dont take this the wrong way, but on the last bonkers CD for example, sharkey's mix seems to be the only one that isnt just a showcase of their own material, i.e. hixxy's mix - every track(more or less) is either by hixxy, is a hixxy remix, or is on raverbaby, and scott brown's mix is pretty much all his own work apart from the nice slice of gabba at the end.
the idea of the bonkers cd is to showcase the current sounds coming out of hardcore at the moment, and with the 3 djs that are on the most recent ones - hixxy, sharkey and scott, i think that they are doing a damn good job - hixxy caters for the trancy(more "commercialised sound" in my eyes) type of hardcore, scott does more of the upfront sounds, plus some gabba, and sharkey has all the latest freeform.
also sharkey is one of the few djs (apart from possibly sy) who will play tracks and have them on CDs from up&coming artists, and (which was mentioned earlier in this post) will teach people who want to learn how to produce how to use software and such, making him one of the most determined DJs in the scene, who is thinking ahead for the future of hardcore, and trying to bring up&coming talent into the mainstream.
if you dont like freeform, fine! you dont like freeform, but remember that there are one hell of alot of other people who do!

Wasn't to keen on sharkey's mixes @ first but the more i listened to them the more they've grown on me. It's a unique style he's got goin, + his contribution to hardcore over the years is unquestionable. The guy is fcukin class.

amen!! keep their own tunes to the raves and not on a cd thats meant to portray the best of the sounds. that's one thing that annoys me.
obviously play a couple of them, even i do that. but not tune after tune thats your own coz not every single one is gonna be big. and you want the biggest tunes on cd so it sells.

NUFF SAID
sharkey is the life and soul of bonkers, this is like asking to take Nick Arnold of Bang and Blaze, or Brisk and ham away from next gen. Did you even THINK WHAT YOU WERE GOING TO SAY BEFORE YOU POSTED???!?!
Sharkey is by far one of the most respected individuals of the rave scene today. Nu energy have over 20 of the biggest labels in the hardcore scene and sharkeys mixes and mixdowns are always top notch, high quality hardcore and quite frankly im disgusted that you'd post something like this up. Nu energy havn't followed the raver baby pattern and to be totally honest, scott brown is good but all his tunes are the same. Sharkey is practically the god of hardcore. Who actually gives a flying ... if he's gay? Fair play to him. Without sharkey, the hardcore scene would only be half of what it is today.

I couldn't agree more. Sharkey is such a god in the hardcore world and for someone to say his mixes are shite is just well crazy! Sharkey's style of hardcore is far more mature than say... "happy2bhardcore"... It's much more energetic and it sounds more professional than anything else. Further off, Sharkey's the only DJ in the bonkers series who COULD get away with a CD of their own material (considering the diversity of it all) and he rescues the series when sometimes it seems as if it's just an ad for big labels (coughBONKERSXcough.) Furthermore, his contribution and devotion to our scene is unmatched by anyone else around! Were you to be able to, I'd purchase Sharkey's Bonkers mix on its own as I know I won't grow sick of it because it gets overplayed!
So I'm turning this thread around and if you LOVE sharkey, let everyone know right now. :)

I agree=anyone who puts loads of effort into a scene we all love-deserves as much respect as possible!!!
..and its good to have a bit of variety on the bonkers,---he's been there from the start-he should be there til the end!!

unfortunately kaffine, that's not entirely true. The whole raverbaby crew play their own stuff and are loved throughout the scene. well to the newbies anyways. if only it were my way...i also noticed in kaffine's post that sharkey does play up and coming artist's stuff out, AND he teaches younger people to dj. Sharkey is, in fact, the best artist in the hardcore scene in my opinion. i mean, for f**ks sake, he's even working in the studio now (i have him on msn) *bows down to sharkey*
i think dj spex should be banned for ever doubting dj sharkey's amazing abilities.
