There's no 'Rant and Rave' forum here, so I guess this is where something like this would go.
This is regarding people that go up to the MCs at hardcore events and sit there bothering them until they give a shoutout. I don't think anyone on this board (at least that I know and respect) would do such a thing, but anyone who does this is retarded. The MCs have a job to do, a job they get paid very well for and are expected to do right. That job is to hype the music and the crowd of 1000s of people, not to cater to a few dumb kids that want to shout out to the "such-and-such crew from whereverville." Like maybe the 5th time Storm completely ignores you while you're tugging on his leg you should get the hint that he's there for other reasons than your little crew. This isn't helping hardcore at all. At Slammin' these kids wouldn't even make noise for the DJ, dance, or even smile dammit! 'Cos they'd be all pissed off at Storm or Smiley for not giving their shouts. Not what hardcore is about (as everyone here knows I'm sure, I'm just complaining about other people, not directing this towards anyone on the board). So yeah, I don't think Storm is a pompous ******* (ok, maybe a bit pompous, but you might be too if you were that badass), he's just busy because he's needed by everyone, not just a few crackheads.
Ok, sorry for the long rant, but I really think these kids have hardcore all wrong and aren't even there for the music, just for like, some kind of popularity contest. Like you just want to say to them "If Smiley knew you and felt the need, he would give a shoutout to you...if not, then leave him alone and let him do his job instead of waving a cellphone in his face...have fun!"

umm m . . . well they arent ravers thats for sure cos ravers would be much happier DANCING to the music than nagging the MC's
ANybody wanna donate some cash to the "Turntables for Gav fund?" ~ If you don't, you could be to blame for the demise of happy hardcore!

most live sets I've heard from 98 onwards always start with the mc saying "Sorry NO Shout Outs tonight"...........They still always get pestered for them though!

i understand your view but do you think that those people know absolutly nothing cuz you sound kinda like you think you know it all.
i aint tryin to be offencive or awt but as you say its about the enjoyment of every1, including the people who want shouts and not just your view.
personally i aint that fussed bout shouts but i was right at the front at slammin and so many different people were gettin to the front and gettin shouts not just a few dumb kids
perhaps every1 would have been moved back from the stage if they were causing a problem and if storm had a problem why was he stood right on the front of the stage?? and like simon said if they didnt want shouts that bad why didnt they say so at the start.
i just think your a little out of order sayin a few dumb kids considerin the size of the groups of people that were gettin shouts at slammin.
oh s*it man, what was i saying?

Nah man, I don't think I know it all, but I really think there's more important things MCs have to do than shout out to people, and that those people could probably have more fun dancing than bothering the MC. They really were a nuissance, you could tell.

I don't think they should waste time in saying that, as it should be common knowledge if they've been annoyed with it since 1998. Also it would have been major trouble moving people further back, it wasn't worth that. Plus everyone shouldn't suffer for (what I still consider) a few mislead (if not dumb) people.

I think maybe a few of the kids (like a minute percent) were really about hardcore, but like I said, if the MC knows you and wants to give you a shout, he will...otherwise you're really just distracting from the important thing...the music.

I'm not being funny but I don't like the way u call them kids... its not necessarily all kids who r doing it and i think u r being very prejudice... why does it bother you so much anyway thats wot happens wen u go 2 places like that it is part of their job becoz its sumthing that happens wherever u go and its part of the whole deal of being an MC... as well as keeping the crowd alive etc...anyway im beggining 2 get irritated wiv ppl saying things like "its ruining our scene" and "Its the kids" and "just in it for the music" whatever you go to a rave 2 do is your business not anybody elses and if you had any respect 4 ur "scene" u wud take the whole package that comes along with it including ppl turning up off their faces etc at the end of the day all these factors are as big a part of the scene as the music is and u shud learn 2 accept it for wot it is... not wot u can do 2 change it!

i really cant see a problem with it to be honest. if the MC decides that he wants to do people's shouts then fair enough, but he can always decide not to. i think most of the MC's are professional enough to know how much and when to do them and if someone wants to spend their whole evening trying to get a shout then they can...... everyone else can just get on with they're own thing and enjoy the evening!

Well the way I see it is like this....
When I perform live and some one wants a shout, I'll do it for the sheer reason itll make their night by just having their name shouted over the mic.
People that want shout outs (usally) only want the one, the gigs ive had pople have usally just wanted the ones and Ive never been pestered by the same person twice.
In a way it can also give u added respect from that person which gives a good vibe around the dancefloor.
I NEVER would want to be standing there giving shout outs all night and im sure no other MC would as they would want to do lyrics or what ever as well.
I see shouts as a way of making that person feel special for that split second and if it makes em happyt why not? as thats ur job as an MC to make the ravers have a good time surely??
So the was I see shouts is in moderation is fine id never give a person a repeated shout out time after time in the set or what ever but Ill always give shouts and a big up to who ever asks for one.

I rarely ask for shouts, just for my girlfriend's birthday which I think is fair enough and to ush.net just to try annoy storm ;)
Its not so bad people getting shouts normally, just the people who stand at the front of the stage all night getting shouts off every mc thats a bit over the top!

Jutt: Yeah mate, I see where you're coming from. I guess if it's just like one simple request then it's ok, it's just the people that constantly bother the MC, it seems to be really distracting. I mean, I saw Storm shoeing these kids away with his hand and they still kept bothering him for shouts. But yeah, moderation and it's tolerable.
2301: Yeah man, one time for your gf's birthday, that's very nice and respectable of you, don't mind that at all. I was mostly talking about the kids that take up the whole front area of the stage, all trying to get multiple shouts.

i agree with what most ppl r saying here and i think as was mentioned by raverbaby69 that your being awful patronising by calling them 'kids'..... your suggesting people who want to get a shout out aint as much into the scene as you or they aint in it for the right resons, well thats pretty damn small minded, yeah ok so some ppl r really annoyin and jus wanna get shoutouts from every set but hell its a very small minority and that doesnt make them any less of a raver than you!! as annoying as they may be shout outs are part of the mcs job... as jutt said it makes the individual feel special and well a majority off these people will be without a doubt off their faces and want to have that little ego boost, and so theyll get it into their heads they want shout outs... and storm is someone wholl get wound up straight away with ppl bothering him (hes a berk!!! aiii!) ... but yeah well u must know how it is when yr offit and wont give up and no matter how many times someone tells you no it doesnt sink in.. lololol treni.
me personally, ive never asked for a shout out for myself, once i asked storm for one for my mates little brother cus he really looks up to him and my ex was a mega cheesy fame seeker and used to always get shout outs for everyone and his brother which i personally found embarrasing..... whizzkid usually does a shout out too me if he spots me which is mega cool.... me lurve *mwah*
but yeah anyway, be a little more open minded and accept ppl want different things from raves and not every 'KID' (define what you mean by this please) is just there to grab storms legs and beg to have their name, their mums name and their pet goldfishes names called out every 16 seconds. OK!

OK, heres my 2 cents (for what its worth):
At events I'm not a huge fan of MCs doing shout outs, purely because I prefer the musical vibe... I'd rather the MC did his rhyming thang than shout outs..... although saying that I do get a buzz if I get a shout, so what can I say.... its a fickle world
Radios I think shout outs are fine, I do them and other radio geezers do them and it doesn't really detract from anything (IMO) as long as they are in moderation.
So, yes I agree with Jutt's view overall, although I do agree with the point CandyAss makes in that if the MC ignores you then QUIT PULLING HIS TROUSERS!!!

Sorry babe, not to sound patronising, but I don't poison myself with drugs
I get shout outs where I live in Dallas all of the time, but not once have I asked the MC to shout out to me or to anyone else. I guess it's just the way things are around here, it would actually be unheard of to pester an MC like that, especially a professional MC at a high profile event. Do they do this sort of thing in the jungle room in the UK too?
I'm not meaning to offend anyone and I'm generally an open-minded person, I promise, but I don't think I'm going to change my mind on this. Hardcore isn't a popularity contest for people on drugs (again, no offense meant, just my honest opinion).
Hope we can all still be friends and you not think less of me.

aiiiiii well along with raverbaby 69 again not trying to be judgemental and dvelop bad opinions of u but well u seem really patronising and small minded and the way you see raves and the scene is the only way it should be or something.

with this - not that your trying to offend well the thing is no matter how many times ppl try and dispute it drug users WILL ALWAYS be part of the scene and whether you think so or not, a worthy part of the scene as if u took every drug user out of a rave how many individuals would be left? (id like to see that!!!)
