I'll keep it brief... in the summer planning to film a few videos of this and that and plan to use my friends own work and perhaps some hardcore tracks. If I do sell it it will either be in very limited numbers (less than 20 copies) and I may just end up giving it to about 5 friends who will have starred in it.

How does this work legally? Where do I start looking for who to pay, and how much will it set me back?

You contact the record label that pressed the song and speak with them about it, usually they won't really mind as long as its not being sold

I think you just have to report it to the MCPS, you might need a license of some sort and pay a little money but it should not be alot for the numbers your talking. Ring em up and ask them they will answer your question over the phone.

You need to contact the MCPS:
MCPS Media Licensing
tel: 020 7306 4500
fax: 020 7306 4380
address: Copyright House
29/33 Berners St
London W1T 3AB

And also the labels that own the recordings.

To be fair i think people r going a little over the top the irrelavantly small numbers you are talking about don't even seem worth bothering about to be honest, however if u r in any doubt i would simply email the record labels concerned rather than the MCPS and unless everyone in hardcore has gone mad they shouldn't want any money at all and OK you're plans:)

He did ask what was the "legal" way. And the MCPS is mainly for the publisher owner, you need both record label and publisher permission to do this.

COME ON THIS IS HARDCORE FFS!!!! Next ill be asking if i can go on my decks legally incase my next door neighboor hears it n i have to pay the MCPS cos its a "public performance"!!
