I don't mean to sound nasty or anything, but you won't do any decent mixes of hardcore, or any other decent dance music using cd mixers. People in your local pubs use cd mixers. There is no talent doing that, and also no control....Trade them in for a decent set of cheap turntables to get you started, and pay a visit to your local small record shop. I say small record shop, because yo ucan get a good relationship with a small place, and then you get 1st poick of all the stuff when it comes in ;)

There's some truth in that, I feel its better to learn on the vinyl then move onto cd when you know what your doing, it's more hands on and tactile and ultimately more enjoyable.

playing in front of a crowd is totally different experience!!
as fat boy slim put it
I am norman cook,
but when I get on the decks in front of the crowd I become Fat Boy Slim
ITS AMAZING
unfortunately the largest crowd I've ever DJ'ed to was about 600-700 people I really want to hit the big time and play for 2000+ arenas. when I used to MC the largest was about 800+ that was wicked!!!! having all those ravers responding to you directly e.g. not through the turntables but to what you say... I know thats why Odyssey stopped DJing and went solely into MCing.
but both are truly different but BRILLIANT experiences.

How can I record from my mixer to my minidisc player? Is there any way of doing this and if so what would I need to get??

Connect the line out from your mixer to the line in on your md player with a standard jack lead. If your still stuck go and ask in comet or summing, they'll sort you out mate.

yea i totally agrre wit ya mate. i'm not a bad DJ myself, but when i was first startin out, i found the easiest way to see how things work is to just watch someone else do it. It'll tick more to a photodgraphic memory that way then when u try to imitate, it may feel a bit weird to u personally so then, try and change the technique slightly. This way u not only get a faster grip for how to actually mix, but u also brgin to adopt ur own skills and styles into it.
Getting back to the quite though, all of this is a lot easier through using vinyl style decks rather than cd's because as someone said earlier this post, its more of a hands on approach. It makes it more enjoyable so that helps u learn the drills better too.
hope some of that helped u and it wasn't all rambling crap!
If pac-man really had an effect on us, we'd all be runnin' round in dark rooms, listening to repetitive music and munching pills!!!
