I'm really annoyed @ this news that M8 magazine r gonna add hardcore to their pages.
I was a loyal reader for years, i bought their merchandise, i went to events that they promoted...i never missed a single issue coz they were all rich with hardcore....untill the b's decided to stop covering hardcore....
every month i would wait 4 the nxt issue to see if it would cover an event, have an interview with a couple of dj's or pa's but no instead i.....like a sucker...would pay £3.50 4 a couple of tune reviews and hope that in the nxt issue things would pick up.....but they didnt.
M8 totally deserted the scene n its readership....n 4wot the socalled glam, fasion and intelligence of house n that stupied socalled trance....mo fo's wouldnt know what trance music was if it jumped out the speakers n fu*ked 'em up the h*le.
If the bast*rds think they're gonna get half that readership back they may think again. alot of ppl that supported them felt very let down when they ditched us. These ppl just want ur money they dont give a flying fk about the music....how much is that mag these days? about 4-5 quid? u gonna pay that 4 a half a page of reviews?! FK im not....i dont give a fk if the whole mag explodes with the sorta content it once did....I WONT B BUYING IT!
This is the mag that fking slammed us 4 the kinda music we listen to, the bloody music we luv..saying we need to fking grow up n that hardcore n her followerz with their wee glowsticks n men@work jackets need to get a life. Producers n jocks became dishearted with this kinda shit, n stopped making/playing hardcore...
Not fking 4getting wot they done 2 the scene here in Ireland with the shit about irish rave king eddie wray n bassline magazine....who were once good friends...and b4 that the nonsense with Club Scene...im sure alot of scotts that bought the mag r pretty pissed too....
This is an exellent discription of that hixxy intro on Bonkers X you know the 'Hardcore is back, now they all wanna peice of us.'. If ya have that and havint a clu wot im on about go n listen to it....u could say that intro was wrote 4 the b's @ m8.
This is 1 sheep that wont b following the commands that they wright.
Coz i wont b buying the bast8rding thing, fk 'em!

the first, and last copie i ever bought of M8, i bought whilst i was in scotland, it had jorden on the front of it, and an incredible mix cd "off yet nut, midsummer maddness mix" (a sampler of the off yer nut album to come) - which i might add, never did have brisk and Trixxy - true desire on, much to my dissapointment, even though it was on the sampler, oh well. anyway - it was the last issue i bought because i couldnt get it where i lived, and it was great to see a magazine with hardcore reviews in it - however i do remember being told by someone that they had stopped doing hardcore - which was why i never tried to form a subscription to them. - if they're bringing it back good - but i had exactly the same thoughts as the guy who started this thread when i saw the news on the front page "oh yeah, NOW they decide to do it"
although as i never read any other issues of M8 i would love to see some examples (direct quotes) of what they we're saying - and then throw it back in their faces.

hehe

I can understand were you are coming from but consider this:

Are you also annoyed at all the people that stopped buying hardcore? all the event promotors that stopped putting on hardcore events? all the producers that stop making hardcore? all the DJ's that stopped playing hardcore? all the people that stopped going to hardcore events that went to other parties and listened to other genres?

Hardcore had a down period in and around 2000, you can't blaim M8 for not covering hardcore... I don't think M8 ever slagged off hardcore, you might be thinking of MixMag who posted the "last will of HappyHardcore" thingy...

man u really touched that spot that hardcore has placed in all of us man and u ****ing really got me there mate, i applaud that mate, now this is the sorta post that needs to be put up nuff respect for that. Silver, i know what you mean about the others that deserted hardcore but it is still down to the media dictating what people listen to and those that deserted hardcore at is lowest point back then, i am sorry but are not true hardcore. it is a way of life as we all can vouch for and to leave hardcore where it lay those years ago and not help is cowardly of all those people that went to the raves, produced the tunes, played the tunes etc. but still i understand the point he is making, it really was down to media, maybe not that particular resource but still it was them that caused the downfall in the first place.

by the way mate yeah i have heard that intro on hixxy's mix in bonkers X i got it, and for those that don't know, it was called "Thou Shalt Not Forget".

If pac-man really had an effect on us, we'd all be runnin' round in dark rooms, listening to repetitive music and munching pills!!!

My agreement is divided between the original post and Silver's reply.

At the end of the day though the media (whether it be magazines, TV, radio, whatever) only concentrate on what is popular and in demand.

Principles and ideals are great but they don't sell magazines or put food on the table. If i was a music magazine producer 5 years ago i'd have dropped hardcore coverage quicker than a flaming turd!

I can't blame people/magazines/dj's/producers for "deserting" the scene 4 or 5 years ago because quite frankly it was rubbish. If anybody that says they would gladly accept such an awful decline in quality from ANYTHING - not just hardcore, then they're lying!

Let's just concentrate on supporting the hardcore revival - if the mags turn on us again we'll still be here won't we?

Generally I find dj magazines quite pompous.

A dj is there to put on the tunes, I dont care about what Sasha does on his days off or Tiesto's favorite beer is. Its guff.

There's always too much rubish in em and not enough on tune reviews, techniques etc and £4 is a lot to pay for 1 page of reviews. Which is why I shall just read them in the shop and not buy!

Anyhow many congratualtion Silver, I look forward to reding your wise words.

I recommend you buy the magazine but I think I might put the reviews into the record DB against the releases.

It would be hectic trying to find all those reviews though. Unless you made a block on the front page for new reviews....

^^^^^^that 1 didnt fit...it was too big

There had/has always been a problem with the sale of hardcore ie 12". jocks would buy the vinyl, ravers would manly by mix tapes and some would buy the original CD's, alot of the CD's would be bought cheap on market stalls and the same goes 4 the mix tapes. many of the ppl that stopped going to raves and turned to other styles did so coz hardcore was seen by many as kids music and that it had no musical value.
back in '97 this stigma was at its high and many young ppl started getting into that happy/bouncy house sound (if u took enuff biskits it didnt sound too bad :p) and the promoters seen green and moved into that market as did sum of the djs....yeah im pissed that SUM hardcore jocks (no names, u know who they r) left the scene but, is there a rule to say u can only be dedicated to one genre? (there was always hardcore jocks who produced for other scenes namly Dj Brisk.) they could have stayed n helped progress the music afterall they did have a hand in its downfall with the music they were turning out.
Look at nu energy, among that bad spell they we're coming out with great music, always pushing it, taking it that 1 step higher, hardcore @ its lowest and still u find ppl dedicated to moving the music on n changing its direction. these r ppl who see Hardcore/dance in general as a movement and that as a movement it is always changing, always evolving, infact it must evolve. so whats the cráic? we have to abandon ship if 1 of those changes is 4 the worse? i dont think so.
Those hardcore jocks who jumped ship there coming back n the promoters r n will follow. and there welcome to came back. The main issue i have with m8 is that it started of as a supporter and promoter of the hardcore scene, mainly in scotland, but it deserted it. u know one day its proud to promote the sound the nxt the only reference to hardcore is by the ravers wrighting to them asking where the hell its gone. it just happened over night...1 day hardcore nxt day house....i mean u just dont do that... u build a readership then the nxt thing u say to them, right fk yez, thanx 4 making us who we r but we're gonna have to leave yez now. as 4 them slagging of hardcore, silver im srry m8(m8 lmao...no pun intended :p) but they did/that wee fk wit mickey mcMonogle did.
it was a top mag there is no doubt. as a hardcore mag it was ne way and im sure it still is a top mag even if it does mainly cover the house market...but to just turn ur back on the scene after so many years is just un4givable in my book.
Goodluck ne way silver with the reviews.
n what the hell happened to wax magazine?(i think its like a sister of m8). they used to do hardcore reviews n a couple of wee articles about the scene but, i cant find it ne where.

Menion if u wanna buy it n support it dont let me stop ya m8 im only expressing my view n that goes 4 every 1 else....im glad really that they wanna offer sum coverage but
i will not buy it not after what they did.

yeah DjTriquatra i got that copy the cd was mixed by fury of stompin' choonz fame.
the end of an era
