Right, although im not exactly new to mixing i was wondering if the following is common.
When im beat matching i can get the speeds virtually perfect. THats when i stop my deck and go to my cue point. The problem is that when my deck starts up again the speeds are completely off meaning im constantly trying to adjust the speed.
Is this common in belt drives or am i just looking for excuses?

You're probably always going to get that with belt drives, they don't hold pitch anywhere near as well as direct drives.
One good thing about using belt drives though - you'll find it so easy to mix when you use directs!!

yeah, I've got some belt drives and exactly the same thing happens mate. the pitch tends to wander like crazy. I find it usually always goes the same way on mine though so try and learn what it's likely to do so you can counteract it quickly. I see it as a good thing, means you have to pay extra attention to mixes and you'll be much better for it when you finally get those 1210's

Forgot to say - the more the belts on your decks are used, the more they'll get worn/stretched - it's this that is making your mixes more difficult.
You're probably doing what you've always done but it's the age of the decks/belts that is letting you down.
Quick solution - new belts
Better solution - new decks

appreciate it guys. May just shell out on some directs, buy one at a time and replace the whole system.
Case closed.

also, the speed of the tune varies throughout the tune.... ie the closer towards the center of the record the needle gets, the faster the tune will be.... something to do with the low torque being applied being balanced by the decreasing reaction force of the tonearm..... I'm not going into the physics of it all.... just know that thats what happens lol :-)
