Hello to you all!!!!
I've been a hardcore raver since the scene began all those years ago. I bought myself a set of Stanton st150s and a stanton scratch mixer. I'm cr*p at beat matching, well just cr*p at it all. can anyone give me any decent tips, websites with idiot proof instructions on what and were to start.
thank you all so much
Johnny

yeah just practisae and mess about loads. Slowly youl start to notice the improvement and eventually youl be able to match up 2 tunes in a atter of seconds.
Try and mess about a bit too with cutting and different types of mixes. Doing this from the start should add variety to your sets

I would recommend u buy the Bible! It's a book called (How to DJ Properly) I think you can buy it at HMV and HTFR and I sure loads more places. I bought it when I first started and it helped me loads in understanding what I had to do!

its not very easy to explain beatmatching haha, just take all their advice. Beatmatching is just something that will come with time, for me i concentrated more on how to fit songs togather and stuff. THen i leanred about the structure of songs
1 bar = 4 beats
8 Bar = little change
16 bar = kinda change
32 bar = big big change
lots of songs have 32 bar chorus, and lots of old cheese and some new stuff has 32 bar intros, so just count the bars out and learn the structure. :)

Hi,
i've been mixing for a while now and that is the best advice i ever got, tapping your foot to the tune thats actually playing can really help in seperating the two tunes, and of course practice.
Good luck and stick with it!

I woke up one morning and I could pretty much do it. I mean I couldn't the day before but the next day it seemed to come a lot easier for some reason.
It seems mighty confusing at first but it soon becomes fairly easy, I promise! the hard part is timing the mixes, choosing the right tunes to place together, how you mix (fades/cuts etc) and putting a decent set together, thats the art, beatmatching is just a basic skill....
I know its annoying that there's no special cheat technique or something that will help you do it, the only answer is trial and error and practice. Believe me, in three months you'll wonder what all the stress and frustration was all about.
The next fun bit is recording a decent tape/cd without messing up at least 1 mix, thats where the real frustration starts...

best advice i can offer is to listen to other people spin, record yourself when you do spin, and practice till your head hurts...and then some

Well, it takes lots and lots of practice. All I have to offer is a tip that will be helpful when you become better at beatmatching. Each bar is composed of 4 beats, so whenever you are bringing the 2nd record in, you want to bring it in on the 1st beat of the bar on both tracks. (If the producer uses an effect a lot in his track, it will almost always be on the 1st beat of each bar)

When I first started out I use to do mixes that I heard other dj's do (scott brown, sharkey,etc...). I kept doing them over and over listening to how the two records went together. This really helped me learn how tracks out laid out, the proper place to mix, and eq'ing.

Also get to know your tracks well such as their structure etc...so that you know when to bring them in or fade them out.
