Would you DJ's out there reccomend more emphasis on practice or listening to others mixes for ideas? I've been listening to mixes more in order to obtain some sence of what a mix should sound like, but then going out for another hour and futily attempt to get record a beatmatched with record b.
So does practice make perfect or should we listen to teacher?

If you listen to a teacher you aint givin yourself da chance 2 use ya own imagination & create sumat on your own.
It takes time 2master sumone elses mix but wen ya do ya get no satisfaction coz it aint urs an itl be a poor copy.
Its good 2listen but keep doin ya own thing as you get recognised more an ppl appreciate you more as a DJ for it.

What your doing isnt really mixing, all your doing is bringing a different tune in just before the other one finishes! When your mixing out in a club your crowd will get bored if your just letting tune A finish then firing in tune B just before tune A finishes! I'm not surprized that, that's all you can do because Homemix decks are Shit they are probably the worst decks around!
I'm not tring to put you down m8 but just saving you from embarrestment cause if you dj out in club and can only mix like that then your pretty much ****ed!!!
Es , SPEED , TRIPS AND BLOW HERE WE ****ING GO!
So what kinda decks would i need to get so that i can mix more like the professionals

There's a whole load top of the range decks about! to name a few
Technics (practically any model will do the job)
Vestrax PDX-2000
Numark TTX-1s
I have the TTX-1s and I use Technics mk5s when I dj out in a club and personally I would say that the TTX-1s are the best deck around at the moment!!
Some people say that if you want to get to play in a club then you're better of getting Techs cause that's what you'll be used to!
But I don't agree with that cause I never used Techs at all untill I DJed out and my mixes were just a good as on the Numarks!
I know I named alot of very pricey decks but if your serious about djing one of them is a must!!!!

I suppose i have been creative as i've done a Remix of Dj Schwede (The Party) eg i added something else in from an other cd and recorded onto tape. will that sort of thing get me noticed?
