Just by listening to a tune without knowing who it's by, can you tell who the producer is? Is their some sort of distinct sound that gives it away? Say you were listening to one of Scott Brown's tune and one of Sy & Unknown's tune, would you be able to tell who the tune is by?
-This was just out of curiosity.

I think its impossible. They usually use same/sametype of programs and hardware so basicly they can make all the same sounds.

Yes ,Pretty much ,you can easily tell the Difference between Scott Brown & Sy & Unknown..and like Breeze n Styles n Ufo etc... They all have their distinct sound & Style..it's not v hard...If you produce then I think you'll find it easy. Like I can tell a DNA tune amongst alot of Hhc tune's in a mix or so...Because of his Style Like the Delayed vocal's & 'Different' Chord progression's etc he alway's used to do ,You can tell it's DNA a mile off..Cause he's the best!! :P

It is possible to guess who a tune might be by but there's no easy way of being certain about it.
A lot of producers change their style fairly regularly by the time you get used to a particular sound from them it has already progressed to something else.
Some producers are a lot easier to recognise than others but in the end it's still all guesswork!

In the past it was very obvious. You could always 100% recognize a force and styles track, a vinylgroover track, a seduction track, a DNA track, a scott brown track etc. Nowadays I agree with whispering, many producers use very similar sounds and it's much more difficult to tell just by listening.

can usually get close to figuring it out, depends what year it's from as well. guys like sy an unkown as well as scott brown have a fairly distinct sound, b&s, hixxy, ufo asll get a bit mixed together. dougal and gammer seem to be developing their own sound more.

Yes, it's possible.
Or you can at least narrow it down to couple of producers who have the same(ish) sound....like for instance Breeze & Styles/Hixxy/Dougal & Gammer.
Play a Scott Brown tune these day and most people will immediatly get it's by him.....mainly because it sounds the same as the last and has some wierd guy trying to sound scary promoting hardcore!
