Hey people, i havnt been on here for a while, i know, but need help!!

Im going for a job tonight lol (im 16) and yes i have played out before, bla bla bla, but i still get the nerves, i think i always will.lol.

Anyway, the place im going for a job at is like a small place, which is classes as a club lol. the word *shithole* comes too mind!

Although the owner has said that "he doesnt want some1 who can mix", he just wants someone who has the tunes and can use the mike!

My arse dropped its load when he said that, lol, i cannot and will not touch a mike, ever. I just feel and sound like a tit imo. so im asking you if you can help me out by giving me any hints or tips, or links to websites that may help. Anything will help, but i need too know by 5-6pm tonight!

Cheers

Adam

Restaurant DJ's sometimes give shout outs if someone is having a birthday etc. Just dont use the mic. If you have to use it, then just say what you need to say. It's not MC'ing you need to do... i think...

Its not in a restaurant, its in a v.v.small club, open til like 2am type thing. But theres a wide range of people in there.....from mid 50's too like lil 16 year olds that think there mint cos they can get in. lol. so i have to play a variety of tunes *sigh*

But i HAVE to use the mike a lot. that is part of the job specification. Like shouts outs - birthdays etc......song ids.....e.g. "this is the new/latest one from [insert artist]"

you get me now?

I jus need some things too say thats all.

The manager said look in the papers at the one liners........but i duno which paper to buy lolol!!!!

ermmm learning to speak on the mic takes experience to build up your confidence! I talk over the odd mix I do on Intense Radio, and its taken until now really (about a year) to start to feel at ease.

Best advice I can give you is to a) do what the guy said, and pic up your local newspaper and stuff, and read the one-liners..... then get on the decks and start practicing stuff from now until you have to leave. Have a couple of drinks before (DON'T GET DRUNK!!!!) to relax you, and just go and have a laugh. Pretend you know everybody there and your having a conversation with them. Listen to the radio for ideas as to how they talk witht he music etc etc.

Good luck mate!

If its any consolation, I have to do something similar in a few months time!

you could always pad it up whenever u haven't said anything for a while.. e.g

who wants a rewind etc... say crap like that and then at least ur not totally silent. could give u a few minutes in between stuff to think about things.

you could even make up false shouts. not everyone will know each other so just do shout outs to random names or birthday shouts.

good luck..... hope that helps

I'm not mad, just ask my camel steven!!!

Hmmm, if your playing commercial cheesey pop/rnb/other mainstream stuff then don't say "rewind", but stuff like "whos having a good time?" and stuff works well as you get further into the evening. Get the crowd involved n stuff, and yes, go with the false shouts etc, that way people will be more confident to come up to you witht heir own requests/shouts

think the fake shouts are a great idea will get you used to talking.

just try and be as clear as possible, a lot of people either talk too fast or put on a really cheesey voice as soon as they get onto the mic.

talk clearly and to the point, at the end of the day if the promotor has told you to use the mic it's something the people that go to that club are going to be used to. just chill and get into it, im sure after a song or two it'll seem a lot less scary!

good luck, let us know how it goes dude!

Are you going to play Hardcore cause the way you have described the night I don't think they will like it much as you said it's all ages from 16 to 50 so anyone over 30ish won't probably like hardcore and any people around 18 to 25 who love bouncy fast music probably wound'nt be into hardcore as their going to a club that gonna have fifty year olds at it! I would say that you'll probably have to stick to commerical music all night!!

Es , SPEED , TRIPS AND BLOW HERE WE ****ING GO!

Get stoned and talk complete rubbish. It may not be understood by everyone but at least you will have fun and not worry.

One by one the penquins slowly steal my sanity...........
