i like 'em. i like oddyseys style, energetic. maybe it doesnt fit best with a mark eg set, but listen to pretty much any Kev Energy tape over the last year and chances are oddysey will be there rinsing it out. i think sets raves without mc's wouldnt be "fine" and i really enjoy a good mc as much as the tune selection. the crowd would not go as mental and make as much noise if it werent for a good mc. as for birthday shouts, thats fair enough for me. on my birthday, whizzkid and spenno shouted me out at least 3 times in one set and i ****ing loved it. if it was your birthday you wouldnt be complaining. i agree 3 times is a bit much but thats odysseys choice to do it and i simply dont care if he does, it doesnt really ruin a set for me. if im listening to a tape pack and an mc is doing a lot of shouts, i think its cool of them to do that. people want shouts. how many times do you hear odyssey say "shout-outs, 5 minutes, let me ride." and then he does shout outs later. same with any mc ive pretty much ever heard. funny that the same people who were criticising wotsee(on a different forum) for talking too much over sets are now saying that hes the best mc around because everyone elses opinion has changed.

I LIKE MC SMILEY. SOME TUNES ARE BETTER WITH THEM, HOWEVER SOME TUNES ARE BETTER WITHOUT THEM. DEPENDS HOW GOOD THE MC IS.

Basicaslly same opinion as evry1 else but i think sum choons sound good with mcs and sum dnt which is where the whole 'shut the **** up' thing comes in. A classic example of an 'mcing ' choon is 'x noise1 - printer', its spanish and wen u hear it by itself u think ' what a load of balls' but a gud mc can turn it into a stomper. So i guess it depends on the MC.

i wouldn't say good or bad, i'd say (excuse the big word here but) superfluous. i don't think they are really neccesary, but they can help sometimes. dependns how good they are though.

Always remember; you are unique, just like everyone else

Personally i'd be a lot more entertained watchin a real turntablist on 3 decks when i'm out, but with simple mixin like at most big u.k raves needs an MC to keep some form of live entertainment about the set.

Venga familia!!!

MC's can be good when done propa!! Sometimes you get them MCing over a mix or a vocal part of the song, and this is a no no in my book lol
But when done propa it's just a gr8 thing!

Mcs are good to get the party pumping. I find that mcs add more to the vibe of a party:) Some can get annoying when they start going over the lyrics to a good song or something. But a good mc knows that it's not about them as much as it's about the music:)

They are good if they don't MC over too much of the track(s). I think it's quite hard to imagine hardcore events without them though.

I like MC Marley!

Does anyone else get pissed off by all these people trying to get shoutouts done by the MCs? Just pisses me off that when you wanna dance near the front, all you get are these people trying to push past you to get crap shouted out over the mic.

I don't know whether this stuff gets put on the tape packs, but i dont want shout outs to people i don't know all over my tapes.

What are your thoughts on this.

mcs are crap if theyre just chattin down the mic...but theyre good if they have a good melody and if it goes with the choon being played =)
but really mcs belong to drum n bass or garage

i do agree that m,c`s need 2 know when 2 STFU being 1 myself if u over chat a tune the crowd`s start give u the mouthin off and that`ll f*ck about with what ure chatting and f*ck up a perfectly good set,
trying 2 come up with witty smarty and uplifting sh*t 2 say at 165bpm`s aint
the easyist sh*t 2 do remenber a good m,c is the difference between a a hardcore story and just another hardcore track ,
