Glad to hear that you are going to be getting into djing my friend.
I know your in the UK but some really good sites to look at here in the states are www.pssl.com and www.musiciansfriend.com. Both have really good starter packs because that prolly what you want to start with. They can be really cheep or really expensive depending on the quality of the decks and mixer and so on.
For records buy them from the store here.
As far as where to learn, go to the quosh website and Sy made some awesome videos that tell you plain and simple what the "fook" to do as you would say ;)
Anyways mate, hope I was at least a little bit of a help. Good luck with everything always feel free to contact me if you need more detailed info, and cant wait to hear your mixes on here some day! :)

While we are on this topic...I'm buying a Hercules dj console. I love this contraption because it is cheap and I can easily mix mp3's. What are some good sites where I can purchase hardcore, trance, and DnB mp3's??

couple of things.......
the jog wheel....how you recon it would feel using it?? :its a lot different to the likes of that on something like technics or denon cd decks as comparison
also, using all the power of a pc...i would hav thought that it could be able to store a good few more loop start/end points, effects etc....even a cd deck with little computing power (by comparison) can store 3/4 effects an a loop
jst ideas at the minute....prob not thought out very well!!

stantons are pretty good
you HAVE to make sure your decks are direct drive, don't even try belt driven tables

stuff you need:
-2 decks (turntables)
-mixer
-cables to connect it all (usualy come in the DJ set stuff)
-a stereo with a aux out, or a amp and speakers (stereo is much cheaper, depends on how much you have to spend)
-cables to connect the mixer to what ever your plugging into (totaly depends on the type of plugs your stuff has)
-and, of course, vinyl!!!!

Yes make sure you dont get Belt Drives, that is worst thing you can do!
Well when I start Djing around 2 years ago, I bought a pair of Numark's TT1650 which were ok, but I realised after i got 1210's what I had been missing out. It is a tough decision on wheather to get the proper shit or not to be honest, guess it depends on the £££ also.
