first off ..im back! yay, my internet is fixed.
anyway, i need an answer for these two questions from the british members of the site...
1: do you consider yourself a european?
2: do you consider britain part of europe?
cheers its for a uni project my wife is working on (im helping her) :)
personally im british, i dont consider myself european - and i dont consider britain part of europe
and i dont want the euro i want to keep the pound... :)
(seriously i know that looks and sounds blunt but its really not meant to be offensive to anyone as its not because of the rest of europe i have those feelings, its to do with england - so please dont take that the wrong way)

Totally agree, sounds like you should be a member of the conservative party like myself.

Im English first even if one side of my family comes from the land of sheep shaggers. British second.
I consider Britain part of europe but don't consider myself european.

We are just far too different from continental europe.

Could answer yes and no to both to be honest.
I AM European but i don't consider myself to be!
Britain IS part of Europe but i don't see us as being as heavily involved with the whole EU thing as most of the Mainland European countries. Just look at the Pound/Euro situation - we're still holding on there.
And after all that, I consider myself to be ENGLISH, not British.

Actually DMS has a point, I would say I am English as saying your British means you represent Scotland, Wales etc......hmmm sorry no offence, dont want to be part of any of that!

1: do you consider yourself a european?
Yes, we're part of europe -- the continent. I am in the same area as the french, germans, italians e.t.c.
We certainly are not American, no matter how our messed up politicians try to be like them!
So yeah -- geographically european. Absolutely. Politically -- no way.
2: do you consider britain part of europe?
Geographically YES. Politically no. The benefits of keeping britain to britian far outweigh those of joining Europe. Joining Europe DOES have advantages, but also some major disadvantages.

We are european but I don't think any british ppl consider themselves to be. I'm British (1/4 Scottish) yet I think of myself as English.

the whole "English" thing i find interesting
see i would say im british, because if i say im english over here in america...that just makes me the same as everyone else..everyone speaks "english" in school, you are taught "english" you go to "english" classes
so saying i am british is placing me somewhere in the world, where as saying one is "english" could place you anywhere that speaks english.
often this happens when im at a resturant or cafe, and they ask me what i want to drink...and i say "water"..of cause, it comes out "war-ter" and they look completely baffled as to what i want - i say "sorry im british" then they know what im on about and its polite, but if i said "sorry, im english", it would come out rather rude lol.
saying that, theres been a number of times where i just couldnt be arsed to deal with language issues and have just asked straight out for "wahh-der"
:P

I think you will find most English people are pissed because are country is completely losing its identity. If someone is from Scotland they say they are Scottish People from Wales are Welsh Ireland - Irish yet if your from England your now considered British not English? I think it's happened because a large chunk of the population in England are not English so it's considered racist to say your English but were not being racist we are just proud to say where we come from.
Back on topic we are part of Europe but I would prefer it if we kept the pound, it looks to me like someone is trying to take over the world just through politics instead of war, think about it there trying to merge everything into 1 easily controllable whole or am I being paranoid?
