Uhm, i dont understand the question (i know you asked from British, but would like to know :p). I mean would the question be the same as asking an american, "Do you consider USA as part of North America" or "Do you consider yourself as North American"? ...or does europe in this case mean European Union?

1: do you consider yourself a european?
2: do you consider britain part of europe?
cheers its for a uni project my wife is working on (im helping her) :)
personally im british, i dont consider myself european - and i dont consider britain part of europe
and i dont want the euro i want to keep the pound... :)
Yes to both, we're geographically a part of the continent of Europe. I think we should have Euros, any large steps towards world unification is never a bad thing in my opinion.

dms mate, just wondering, what do you think is the differnce between being english and being british? and why do you say your english but not british?
just updated the first post, i thought the end sounded a bit blunt
Sytronik has summed it up basically - the country of my birth is England which makes me in no way associated with the other British countries other than that they're attached to us!
You could call me British - in the same way as you could call Whispering 'Scandinavian' or Milo 'North American'.
I'm not particularly racist but i choose to be proud of my country and heritage - none of which has anything to do with Scotland or Wales.

I AM European but i don't consider myself to be!
Britain IS part of Europe but i don't see us as being as heavily involved with the whole EU thing as most of the Mainland European countries. Just look at the Pound/Euro situation - we're still holding on there.
And after all that, I consider myself to be ENGLISH, not British.
that bit i made bold is the first thing that came into my head when i read this topic title. ha, gotta love ol' DMS....dirty old codger that he is
right down to business though.
again i agree with DMS on the whole situation with the involvement of the british isles with the rest of mainland europe; we are not as involved with EU affairs as the other members of the EU however we are a part of it.
myself, i studied the effects of joining the euro at A-levels for my economics subject and learnt about the pros and cons of joining the euro.
there are loads of reasons for and against it and people that were in my class made they're own minds up of whether they want to join the euro scheme or not, but personally i think, looking at how well our economy is going at the moment, and the fact that it has been 20 odd years since our last full economic recession (slump/slowdown, whatever u want to call it)
makes me think, do we even NEED to join the euro?
personally i think not.
oh yeah, and welcome back man. thanks again for the classy avatar, found it on my com again and thought i'd stick it on. u talented geezer u

i would like to think that britain is'nt europeon and i know i'm not, i think that convertin to the euro would be economically devastatin, the euro has'nt been overly stable since bein introduced, compared to stirlin, so wots the point of tryin to fix somethin that in't broke

I've recently spent a year in Germany as part of my uni course, and I agree with most people that England and Britain really don't feel like part of Europe. Most of the Germans and other europeans I spoke to didn't really consider Britain as part of Europe. As a Brit I think we genuinely are in a unique position in Europe: as the main English speaking group of nations (I know Ireland isn't british I'm just generalizing a bit here, please forgive me) we are always going to have the closest relations with the US and be the most influenced by the US, which means we are never going to see things from a truly european perspective. Whether this is good or not, I just don't know. I guess the politicians will have to convince me!

People often use the expression "Britain has its other leg in the grave" because of that :p

I consider myself both English and British...... and very loosely Europen (ok, who muttered Loop is a loose European :P ). England is my home country, and in turn England is part of Great Britain..... however, we are very seperate from Europe. We are governed from Westminster, not from Brussels, adn I think alot of Brits would agree with me when I say that some of the things coming out of Europe are a load of nonsense. With so many different socio-economic regions going on in Europe its not a simple task to govern them all under one banner with one set of rules etc, and I feel Britain as a whole is better off standing on its own 2 feet (even if one leg is in the grave). America is a different kettle of fish, as although a similar size, it is not such a diverse community.

I dont think a single european thinks their governed from Brussels :p The whole point in Brussels is not to govern all europe. Everyone has their own governments. Yes there comes lot of crap directives etc, but there comes lot of good too. If you think the rest of european countrys are all Pro Europe, then your wrong. We could stand alone too, but its better to work in a team in my opinion :)

I would definitely say that i'm brittish first cos even though i was brought up in scotland im loyal to the uk and wouldnt want to break off into independent countries. Throughout recent history in all the bad times people from all over the uk have had to fight and die together to keep us alright, so to me they're all as much a part of britain as each other. Compared to percentages of people in the population i'm 100% sure more people from scotland and ulster have died defending britain than anyone else so it does annoy me some people feel we're less brittish. As far as european goes i dont feel that is my heritage not in a bad way just that we're different. I like the topic triquatra defo not the same old will keep an eye out for diff peoples opinions.

I'm from Northern Ireland and would defienatley consider myself to be british! i don't consider Britaian as part of the european union because they are all near enough way different then us! I would never want to loose the Pound to the Euro! as i have been down south and don't understand the way the Euro is at all! You don't know if you are being ripped off or conned!!
