Just being looking at some photo's of raves between 96 & 99. What ever happened to ravers dressing like they were going to hit the track and field;) Nearly every male raver back then used to have the baggy pants or sports snap pants.. A Champion, Ecko, Nautica, Kappa or Nike swetter with a blond flat top, skinhead etc.. For the ladies it was sporty style pants, very tight sports top with the pierced naval showing and of course the trademark pig tails;) Nike or Nu Balance trainers were the go for shoes..
Now all the big events seemed to be filled with cockatoo hairdoos, big dumd 70's sunnies, bimbos in high heels, messy print shirts and the dreaded trucker caps.. And some of these clowns have the cheek to sneer at ravers who dress sporty.. Don't know what the go is with that when sports wear came first.. You used to recognise someone in the street if they were a
raver, now they could be anyone..

Probably because (in the UK at least) sportswear seems to be assosciated with chavs. Non-chavs don't want to be assosciated with that.
Fashions change.... although in 30 years time or so it will come back round lol. Mind you, saying that I don't see to many people wearing the old pantaloons and powder wigs these days.

the chav look is dying (thank god) raves seem to be getting a little bit classier
these days with people actually making an effort rather than slingin`on some dirty trackies before they go out. I don`t think it will be long before dress codes will be in force at most of the nightclub raves.
I prefer jeans, RBC t-shirt and a pair of nikes (all clean!!) myself.

I prefer to go skreaking...much more comfortable. Usually dress casual for raves...sometimes go kinda 'cyber' when possible.
The logic between music/raves and clothes? - Probably the same logic in companies and dress code (i.e. suits).
If everyone were to go to raves wearing scraggy clothes full of holes -The club and the scene will be given 'bad names'...
Plus...people like to 'dress to impress' when going out.
The hip-hop scene's 'gangster' image is partly portrayed through the clothes they wear. (IMO!!)...
Look at chavs...If everyone went to taves dressed like that??...
Wouldn't mind seein more NASA stly jackets around..they were pretty cool.

IMO its pretty sad if you are supposed to dress in a certain way just because you listen to a certain type of music I listen too laods of different types of music so am I supposed to where an item per genre or what?
Not having to be/look a certain way is one of the main things the rave seen always used to be about and IMO people should try and keep it that way.

I've been to plenty of raves and I've never gotten even the slightest discouragement for wearing anything... and believe me I've worn a great diversity of clothes to raves. I've worn sports clothes, regular jeans and a shirt, fluro clothes, dressed head to toe in candy... I've done lots of styles. And that's the thing I love about raves, is that the only style is no style; dressing as crazily and mismatched as you can is really fun, and I like going to a rave and seeing all the other crazy styles. Why should everyone dress in a certain manner? That squashes individualism and takes a whole lot of fun away.
As for people giving you dirty looks... I find it hard to imagine, but obviously they're not true ravers. If you believe in PLUR then you're not going to give a fellow raver a hard time just because of their choice in fashion.

Well said m8 I wore a massive pair of pink cargo's once just cus I felt like it, I wouldn't like to think anyone at a rave would judge me by it but I got dirty looks from more people than I would have ever thought. I say wear what the hell ya like it shouldn't matter fair play to me m8 Kathy for wearing pj's and slippers at Uproar :)
