With the recent cancellation of the huge Hardcore Heaven & HTID event this
weekend, its high time we all sat back and took a good hard long think about
the way OUR scene is developing.
As a promoter, I have to assume some responsibility and accept some burden for
the Hardcore monster that has been created and that is seemingly on the
verge of destruction.
We as promoters have to seriously look at why our breakeven points are so
damn high and therefore difficult to meet and thus risky.
As a promoter our aim is always to put on the best parties as we possibly
can. However, in the last few years other promoters have adopted the method
of booking twice as many DJs, to guarantee their club is full. All other
promoters had to follow suit, sink or swim.
The resolve is not to cut DJs sets from 3 hour set to 2 hours or from 1.5
hours to 1 hour then to 45mins, it is absurd! No DJ can work a crowd in
45mins, most DJs like building their sets to a crescendo taking the crowd on
a journey. What are we saying to the world about our scene? Particularly
when our BIGGEST stars (on a worldwide scale) DJ for only 45 minutes. How do
we expect to be taken seriously in the dance scene?
Why did this happen?
One of the reasons is down to tape packs. Yes, at the time they did
serve a purpose, but lets be honest, this is the 2005, we have moved on.
First it was single tapes then double packs then 4 packs then 6 packs then 8
packs now 12 packs with free DVDs come on, where is it going to end....?
For this scene to move forward, we must all except our part in what we have
done to the scene, and start to make plans to put it right? Even if that
means downsizing, then so be it.
Vibealite have always been proud to represent the whole of the Hardcore
spectrum, from Old Skool to Breakbeat to Trancecore (as it was once called),
through to Freeform to Happy Hardcore right through to tuff Upfront Hardcore
and Hardtrance right through again to Gabba. This has been reflected in
the lineups that we have put together giving a true representation of the
WHOLE
of OUR scene.
With this in mind, we feel it right to announce some changes we have been
working on for the past 12 months.
1st: We have sponsored a radio station called Hardcore Regime, where not
only will you get to hear top DJs play their sets. Also providing a platform
for new talent to showcase their material and hopefully go on to provide
future talent, which will take OUR scene forward.
2nd: We have secured a 4 room venue, all rooms of which are nearly the same
size. We plan to re-introduce 3hour sets by the top DJs within our scene,
allowing them to take you on a journey into their sounds, that they work so
hard at producing day in and day out.
3rd: We plan to do no more tape packs after June 18th event and instead to
move forward by providing an officially licensed LIVE CD albums where the
royalties are correctly and legally distributed amongst the hardworking DJs,
producers, labels who up until now have allowed such material to be supplied
free on tape packs.
4th: We plan to represent Hardcore to a worldwide audience again through
radio
and the internet. This is already started by introducing Hardcore to Sky,
digital channel 890 which is broadcast to 25,000 to 30,000 listeners every
Thursday with Stu Allan and as of June 7th every Tuesday also with various
top artists from our scene.
We are also in the process of planning several international events to cater
for the global Hardcore scene.
Our plans are extensive, we are not looking for a quick buck, nor to rely on
the capital gained from the hard work of others, we are here to develop a
scene that WE All are a part of and one that ³never dies².
One thing to remember: no one DJ, MC, Promoter or corporate company is ever
going to own OUR SCENE, nor should they be allowed to. It belongs to us all
and especially you the RAVERS.
Thank you
Gary Vibealite

Dunno, from what I heard it was because of poor tickets sales for the dnb area. He has some valid points though

I like the idea of live CD albums instead of tape packs!!

To me that sounds like nothing but great news!!
- Licenced Live recordings! - artists get payed at last!
- Longer sets! - It was only the other day I was pondering why you never get to hear long sets from Hardcore DJs, whereas if you go somewhere like Syndicate with just one headline act on from 12 til 3 it just seems so much morepersonal
- Pure dance radio - hardore represents!
I take my hat off to you for standing up for what you believe in and doing something to build the scene back up to teh greatness it deserves!

Well thats got me raising an eyebrow anyway. Live CDs much better too, in this day and age we should have moved on from tapes a long time ago anyways! Glad to hear the artists will be gettin some more recognition and more money for their work 2!

noble words there man. i wish the best of luck for all this against the other competitors. judging from what you said, it would appear that you are going to literally be pushing directly against the other corporate companies to go in this direction.
no easy task, but one that will have my full support.
well done to you for your efforts and i say again, the best of luck in carrying this all out; i'm sure the other big players will see the error of their ways.
Honestly officer, it's for medicinal purposes! Just ask my doctor, he's right over there eating the curtains!
