whenever i go to a rave, i havent in 2 years, i cant be inside for any longer then 1 hour 30 min because the music is just sooo loud i get a headache and then my ears ring for like 2 days!
i was wondering isnt that bad if you are a dj? i believe im good enouf to do a rave but im just worried i will get a massive headache and not be able to mix. all i would wanna do is get the hell outta there.
is it different for the dj? is music quieter for him? how do ear plugs work? does anyone use them when they dj? can u hear anything with them on, and is it harder to mix?

You can hear with them on, but if you buy "off the shelf" ones they're really bad, and it messes up the frequencies and stuff. You can get custom made earplugs which are ALOT better, and tend to just reduce the volume so your eardrums don't explode and they're moulded to your ear. they don't come cheap though. Can't say i've ever DJ'd anywhere where the musics been *too* loud though, although I was ina club once where the speakers were just above your head, and cranked really loud. I could barely hear the next day - that was bad!

I think you just get used to the volume I don’t ever get headaches but do sometimes come away with my ears ringing. Also remember if your djing all speakers but the monitors are pointing away from you so it’s not AS load anyway. I have heard that custom earplugs are worth looking into especially if you’re looking for a long-term carer in djing and/or production.

when your dj'ing, you are on the other side of the loud speakers, so the music is traveling the other way. unless you hang out at the party before or after. i wear earplugs if i'm going to hang out. but not while i'm playing

But you still have big hunky monitor speakers blasting away at you, as well as having headphones on.
I would assume that most hearing damage through djing is cause by the headphones.

yah, ear pluhs of any kind will help if you're running around the place. just turn the monitors down when you're spinning and it should be ok, or invest in some nice plugs which will take it down across the spectrum =)

or mix using your headphones only, and not having the volume cranked. that saves on the hearing also
