:::By BEATS I'm referring to the kicks, hi hats, snares, claps, crashes etc...:::
Breeze and Styles - Their older beats were better, simply because they were harder and faster. These days, the team's beats have become a little soft, but (lucky for them) they tend to fit well in the mix. The simplicity of the underlying loops they use are well done, but then again, they are almost too simple. I've heard that Breeze does the beats and Styles does the riffs and sound Fx. (Examples: Do You Feel the Same, Sonic, Black Magic Bad Magic). The steampot "clap" sound they use is hilariously original, for I find myself mimicking that sound with my mouth as much as I can throughout the day.
Recon - This man is well-liked probably because of his riffs and melodies, but it's important to analyze this guy's beats as well. Recon probably has one of the most penetrating kicks out there right now, and he's been able to successfully distinquish his trance beats from his hardcore beats. He, like others, lacks some originality in his more mainstream-geared tracks Examples: (The Sun, Right Here, Bang Now, ect.) Same kicks etc...underneath different songs. Recently, however, he has produced some darker tunes with a little more variation, which makes up for the happier tracks that sound quite similar to each other.
NU Energy Crew - Is it me, or are these guys all using the same beats? I'm referring to K Complex, Kevin Energy, Joey Riot, Yoshi, AMS and a few others. To say the very least, these gentlemen have come up with some MASSIVE tunes in the last year or so, but I must say...their beats all sound very similar. Nevertheless, whatever template they're using, it's probably the best one out there. I'd say it's the perfect blend of hard and FAST. No matter what BPM. This is evident in the way that some of these guy's tunes exist as hardtrance songs as well! F*CKIN COMPATAIBILITY!
Hixxy - It's obvious that Styles and Hixxy share some of the same programs, but when you hear a Hixxy tune , you know it's him, mainly because of the synths and vocals he chooses to remix. His high hats are usually very snappy and quick. I'd say there's a lack of originality in his beats, but it's balanced out with good song structure and melodies. From listening to his latest stuff, I can see they Mr Hicks is moving in the direction of Hardhouse-sounding beats, and this is a good thing!!! There needs to be more emphasis on the beats!
Dougal & Gammer - What can I say? Sorry to put down Gammer, but it's obvious he needs to come up with some better beats. I'm still hearing the same kick that I did about 3 years ago, but hey, it's so good who cares, right? It's natural to assume that Gammer gets most of his beats from the porno star, so time will only tell if he develops some sort of independence. Dougal & Gammer's older beats were much harder and more detailed (w/loops and such) than they are today (Examples: Light of Passion, Starlight, Rock this Place), and I which they'd bring back those templates, hehe.
Impact - He tried to copy Breeze and Styles, but I must say, he did a damn good job of it and came up with his own style in the process, so good for him. (Examples: Someday Soon, Will I, Do You Know 2005) what gets me about Impact is that you never know what the hell he is going to throw at you! One minute he sounds like Hixxy, the next minute he's back to himself again. Nevertheless, this is a good attribute, because he can always rely on his creativity to create something new at any moment. I'm sure AMS is showing him how to make things happen.
Sy & Unknown - Their beats are quite original and are probably the hardest and bounciest of all artists in this genre. More recently, however, I have become VERY disappointed with the route these guys have taken. Like Dougal & Gammer, they have become addicted to their templates and it all sounds the same! If you have a chance to listen to their older stuff (Examples: Caught Up, Product of the Devil, Brainwave, etc...), you will see that there use to be more variation in their kicks and underlying loops.
Scott Brown - Mr. Brown has a lack of details in his beats. It's either that, or his kicks are too prevalent in the mix. Nevertheless, his beats are still pounding like hell across the southland. Regarding his Gabber, I still have yet to find artits that are able to make their beats sound as clean and death-inspired. His trancier songs' beats lack originality, for if they were laid underneath another riff with different synths, it would be a little bit hard to tell the difference. Perhaps if he concentrated on some more intricate loops to incorporate into his beats, I'd have nothing to say!
Brisk/Ham - These guys are experts in their own right. I bet if you isolated some of their kicks from the older songs they've made, they would sound like shit. What they've done is added some good distortion to their beats and the result is a rough-edged product that still gives me goose bumps. What's so nice about their beats is that they sit so perfectly within the mix, and they are so damn dirty at the same time! Sadly, V.A.G.A.B.O.N.D/EUPHORIA & FRISKY & HUJIB lack originaltiy with their beats. (Example: Partycrasher, Enter Heaven, Love Me Forever, etc...) It's 100% obvious that they all use the same beats, synths, sound FX, etc provided by Brisk and Ham, but their insane creativity mask this fact.
So...Who's beats do you like the most and WHY? what do you notice about the styles/templates these guys are known for?

CLSM.
All their tracks are varied, and nothing feels old or re-used. Check the breaks mix of Liberation - real drum samples chopped to **** and sounds a treat, and also Roof on fire - IMO the best breakbeat I've ever heard. As for their kick-drum stuff there's a decent amount of variety there too!

I don't know what you're on about saying Breeze and styles's older beats are harder? I listened to Black magic bad magic and thought how weak they sound compared to their recent beats, they're beats now(As they have been for the past couple of years) are harder, Hard trance kinda style- I love the snare they use, and their grooves.
I agree about Sy & Unknown's beats though, they're really boring now and that's the one of the reasons why I feel like their... boring now.
My fave beats are Dougal & Gammers, I love the kick they used to use, the big phat warm one(Which is a Warp Bros kick, I think.. I have a Warp bros kick that sounds exactly like it, just pitched a little higher heh)and then you have the verbed clap, or the snare which are wicked and that big stand out Hihat, And also once again, they always used different percussion loops which i love.

I like the Sy & Unknown sound as well as the Scott Brown beats but, admittedly, they are both getting a little old.
Gotta agree about CLSM...variation and innovation is why they will last.
I always think of Dougal & Gammer's joint stuff as a bit bland...essentially a filler on album's with much better quality tracks...gammer on his own on the other hand is extremely innovative while still sticking to the SB-like hard bouncy sound.

Well, I's say he's right on par with Breeze & Styles, but his latest beats are certainly better. Although I'm seeing a pattern, there's definately more variation.

You think the newer ones are harder? Well, I certainly think they are less pronounced in the mix of things, but the old ones were certainly more unique and bouncy I guess. (Examples: Rainbow, Total XTC, Hazzard Counties 1 &2)

Scott Brown & Recon for sure.
Love Recon's style! the remix of heartbeatz by him is outstanding and he just has that type of trancey/hardcore style that i like.
As for Scotty Brown.....need i say more? yes i kno he has been remixing alot of old stuff and his gabber on bonkers 14 was way under my standards of what he is capable of, but he has always kept that bouncyness to his hardcore that i love!

of course they do, you know why, because they all make the same style of hardcore and that is why they are together.
all labels have there own style nowadays really and only sign people that stick to that style, raver baby has there softer UK hardcore as you will, nu energy have freeform, quosh have the bouncier sounds, evolution, well all just sound like scott brown
personally my tastes change from day to day but i gotta say it is stupid to hate every release by an artist because you didn't like his original stuff, isn't hardcore about giving everything a try and not catergorising stuff and giving it a chance? hell knows i wouldn't be listening to it if i didn't give it a chance or maybe i was just to lazy to press stop (possibly little from column A, little from column B)
either way my favourite producers at the moment are mainly the newer ones i got to say, they seem to be pushing the scene forward which is coming to a bit of a halt for innovation
