ok this is a letter i posted in the crown forum cause this is what happened to me if you can help please tell me what i could be doing wrong.
"
ok i bought a xls 402 to replace my aging onkyo reciever. basically i bought it for djing.
had it for a 2 months worked perfect. then all of a sudden it starts to fault when i turn it on. tried unplugging everything. didnt fix it.
so i decided to take it to a repair center crown sent me to in my area.
took my amp said they will fix it. basically they take 1 MONTH AND 1/2 to give it back to me saying that they could not get it to fault............................................. .......
after a month and a half. i couldnt dj at my house for a month and 1/2 and they didnt even do anything to it.
get it back plug it in and after 1 hour it starts to fault evertime i turn it on. now no matter when i turn it on, its ok then 3 sec later it faults and no sound goes thru.
WTF , i hate u CROWN i will never buy 1 more product from you guys ever. i will tell all my friends and everyone i know to go with other brands. i dont have time for this shyt. i payed to have a amp and it dont work and this gives me more trouble then u can imagine.
now i have to choice, i cant wait another month for you guys to play "lag the warranty until its 2 late". i want a refund so i can buy a proper device.

um, if they couldn't get it to fault... why didn't you get them to install it and show them?

Perhaps another piece of your equipment is causing the problem if it does not fault at the technician's. Maybe something is shorting somewhere in your setup and passing 240V down the audio cable or something daft like that? Try plugging some other equipment in and seeing if that blows it. Also, try taking the amp into a different room and plugging it into a different socket. Maybe the fault is on the mains circuit/wall socket.
I did some audio cabling through the house so we had speakers in numerous rooms from the same system. When I first ran the system up the sound system kept shorting and I had to turn the power off then on to get it back up (similar to your problem?). The reason for this was that in my spider web of cabling I had crossed the polarity of 1 of the speaker cables (it went through a speaker switcher box) which meant that the system blew whenever I took the volume above a certain level. Could perhaps be something similar in your case?
We have a couple of 500W Crown amps in the lab at work that I have been using and have had nothing but excellent performance from them.

well its plugged into a plug extender with it full which is 7 or 8 plugs....
and also it sticks on a speaker with 12 inch sub and cdj on top!
could all that be the problem. what they told me is its faulting because it doesnt get ventilated.

that could be true, if it overheats there is prob a heat sensor which cuts the power so it doesnt burn out

3 sec is very fast for it to be overheating and cutting out.
By all means try sittingthe amp ina more ventilated area. Make sure none of the vents are covered ALWAYS! And you should always ensure that there is space around it for adequate airflow. Just move the amp for now to outside your make-shift "rack" so it is standing completely free and see what happens
