I would say dnb is still bigger than hardcore in the UK but hardcore is catching very fast.
The original breakbeat hardcore sound shaped jungle which in turn shaped DnB.

DnB is sufferin from the same as garage and oldskool hardcore: Bad publicity!
Go to a slammin with DnB N Hardcore, where do all the tossers go? the DnB room, plenty bad boys and plenty evil looks and no xtc all makes for a bad vibe.
Hardcore is where its at, at the moment anyway, i have never seen so many hardcore TV ads its crazy, i can buy hardcore from HMV now in my local town and i here it blazin out of kids mums 4X4's as ther get a lift to school.
UK hardcore is becomin more main stream, the kids are buyin it so its all good at the mo.

say one or two hardcore parties TOPS in a year here with about a 300 person turn out...
dnb parties however have way more
i hate those camowearing cokehead *******s who rip candy off my arms
agreed. the hardcore scene here is shitty. everyone is into the trancey and DNB. got no problemm with the music but the people really are a bunch of twats. i however am lucky, all of my friends in the rave scene love hardcore, but its definatley the rest of the world that 'inhales'.
as for publicity the whole dance/rave scene isn't that big compared to the rest of the music out there. Example top 40. i don't even watch tv anymore because of all the crap on it, and seein fifty cent talking about how horny he is is definitley one of the reasons i dont watch.

myself i would of said that harcore is way bigger than dnb nearly everyone i know listens to hardcore (exept the hip hop people grrrr) and only a few listen to dnb i have to admit yes the mcs in dnb are fast as fcuk but i dont think theres as much feeling in the lyrics like there is in hardcore.but if people think hardcore isnt as big as dnb trust me it will be very soon!

Yeah they have taken accelerated culture out of the main room at Slammin and made the main room a showcase of all the genres. At NYE the main room (DnB) looked half empty will HH was jammed and bangin :-)

I think at the moment its a case of hardcore is on the way up, and DnB is on the way down. DnB has gone through the whole commercial "tv ad" phase, and has been played to death the public are bored...... its no longer "trendy". Hardcore on the other hand is gathering momentum. Its unfair to compare the 2 scenes at the mo I reckon.
One thing I have to say though is that Kat sounds like a cool Mum!

Whoever you speak to will have conficting views on what scene is bigger or how a particular scene developed.... Everyone will also say that their genre is better than any genre.
So really - who cares if hardcore is bigger than d&b or where it all came from? What really matters is that we enjoy life doing what we want to do and respect everyone else's point of view in the same way that you'd like your respected...
I know, i'm being idealistic thinking about an ideal world where we all get along but has no-ones else notised there's so much more hostility in the world? Hate is a desiease that seems to be spreading.
Not really aimed at anyone or and thing and quite possibly abit random but that's just the way i'm thinking right now.

Good question.....
A lot of people are moaning that D n B has had its peak and is on the way down - it's not the same as it used to be (where have I heard that before?) but on the other hand it DOES have a weekly slot on Radio 1 and is more commercially "accepted" than hardcore.
Having said that, hardcore recently hit the #1 position in the compilation album charts, when was the last time a D n B album managed that?
