Just been listening to some classic 2 Unlimited techno tracks and I was wondering if they where hardcore or not. They MC and their beats are (of corse) far better than some of hardcore's newer beats and the techno melodys are up lifting so i was wonder if they were hardcore or not?
They also relesed stuff into the charts which did very weel in the magical 90s...

They were rave
The early stuff was techno and breakbeat, went on to become europop
The MC went on to produce happy, before he went into hiding and never showed his face again

imo, most hardcore is sped-up, and usually, watered down Techno.
On the other hand, Gabber is sped-up, and usually, toughened-up Techno.
I was listening to Techno (Industrial Techno & Detroit Techno etc..) before Jungle was
Rave, and Rave became Hardcore.
In other words, what came first?
The Chicken or the Egg.
(the Chicken.)

the egg damnit!
seriously though, all these words, rave, techno, jungle, hardcore etc, they're all words given to try and pigeonhole music for ease. Often you'll find they mean very different things to different people. Recently I've been helping out providing genre descriptions for the electronic forum on a large music based website based in the states. We've been discussing what the various genres actually are and its surprising just how varied people's views on what a genre is can be!
For instance, describe Techno in 30-50 words.....

the egg actually... considering the theory of evolution and diversification.. something that wasent a chicken laid an egg, and out popped a chicken! so it was the egg first!
just my thoughts on it
sorry lol totally off topic. but i could not resist!
on topic..i just class music as
dance, hardcore, pop, rock, RnB, vocal.
my entire library is made of just those five categories lol though i am thinking of splitting dance into club and trance, and hardcore into hardcore and happy hardcore
so that would be seven. does me fine for what i need.
i think it is better to be more general with things because otherwise as time goes on u will end up with a genre for each 5 or so songs. (bit extreme lol)

The Chicken.
In the begining, single cells.
They multiplied, became amoeba which evolved to become life as we know it.
Some evolving life forms layed eggs. The hatchlings (ahh... hatchlings) layed eggs, etc etc....
but, one day a chicken didn't pop out. "Ahh, finally a Chicken....!"
It's great great great grandfather would say, "Don't be silly boy. I was a chicken long before you even thought about clucking!".
"I've seen the photos!" the new born chicken would smirk.
"You looked f*** all like a chicken. Well wierd......".
"Yeh, in your opinion" the grand old forefather would reply,
"At least I could fly....... You f***in' wierdo mutant waste of space....".
And, given time, what we call a chicken won't be a chicken......
......same with Everything.
......hence this post - http://www.happyhardcore.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=23968

I agree with you, 2Unlimited's music sounds far more hardcore than most new skool hardcore does, and Get Ready for this is an amazing tune...

I think it would be nice if their songs were remixed into Hardcore, everything else is atm!
