I have been mixing (well trying to!!) for just over 6 months now. I still use the same decks that i got at the beginning. They were second hand, cost me £50 and are quite old. So i am thinking of getting me some new decks in the new year. The thing is alot of tracks these days are digital only. So i am missing out on all these quality tracks by using vinyl. This is what has made me think about getting some CD decks.
I dont know a thing about CD decks. So these are the questions that have been bugging me....
Are they harder/easier???
Do they take a lot of getting used to????
When producers release there tracks on MP3 format..are they designed to be played on CD decks????
If so..how do you buy a track on MP3 and how do you get it onto CD???
all comments and help would be much appreciated.

its a bit of a hard one to answer that mate.
if you are wanting to do it for the enjoyment id say keep the decks you have now, and get some cdj's. its a lot cheaper to but mp3's than it is vinyl, ten fold!
i think they are just as easy, apart from the fact you cant see the breakdowns, other than that i find them easier
if you can use turntables, then id say a few hours and ull b good
its pretty much the the same, most dj's make dj friendly tracks now
you download an mp3, then burn it to a cd
if you want to try and get in a club, id suggest getting one technic 1210 and 2cdj's, but if u can afford, id go for a cdj 800, cdj 1000 and 1 technics 1210's
hth's mate!

I am only really doing it for enjoyment, not to make something of it (Never say never though!! lol)
I have my eyes on Pioneer CD100 decks and a Behringer VMX300 mixer - £600 for the package. Did you say it is cheaper to buy MP3s than vinyl? i will probably go for CDJs tbh!

yea you can get mp3's from 50p, vinyl is £5
i think id get the 800's. save up an extra 400 and you can get two cdj 800's with a pioneer djm 300 mixer!

You could use Final Scratch to play mp3s as you would play vinyls. Do you know it?

Just like with vinyl decks you get what you pay for. Save up a decent amount and get CDJs, but you should definately keep your vinyl decks as well.
Like Jaxon said get the 800s, heard nothin but good things about them.

Mixing on CDJ's is the same as mixing with vinyl. There are a different set of physical mechanics, so it does take some getting used to.
MP3's are considerably less expensive than vinyl. For example, last year when I was still buying vinyl I was paying an average of $16 (incuding shipping) a piece. Now I can get a quality version of a track for about $3, no shipping to pay, and no need to worry about physical damage or loss.
Buying a track on MP3 is very easy. Just go to a legal MP3 store (Nu Energy for example) and select the tracks you want, pay for them, and download. From there you use pretty much any decent burning program to put it on disc and you are ready to go.

I like the CDJ 100. If I could afford the 1000 I would grab them though. Fully go James Zabiela styles with 'teh Hardcore.
But there is something about turntable that will always represent "The Dj" for me.
That’s why I use both. Can’t go wrong getting to know the feeling of vinyl and Cds. (Although, if you can use one, you should have no problem using the other).

I'd go with the combo for sure. Then you could mix into anything you wanted to.
At least thats what I'd do.

i have a pair of direct drive decks and a pair of cdj's. personally, i dont find mixing with vinyl or cd to be any different in terms of ease of use.
because i am conscious of that fact that i will miss out on exclusive and/or unreleased tracks released in digital format i decided to buy cdjs and use them alongside my decks.
if you are like me and dont want to miss out on some of the beauts that are released digitally only, i recommend getting a pair of cdj's

I can see the advantage of cd decks although i still prefer my technics at minute.
The good things i see about cd decks is the getting unreleased/promo tunes easier and especially if your playing out doesnt mean you need to take your precious rare expensive vinyls to f**k no's where and look after them all night.
But i'm jus a learning bedroom dj and most my fav tunes are old and i much prefer vinyl in terms of look, feel etc. Plus most the tunes i'm into arent really available on many unmixed cd's so would have to buy the vinyl anyway to get the tunes i want.
If i get a 3rd deck i'd get a cdj just to have one but i cant see it taking over from vinyl for me for a while yet, need some cash spare first.

use what you like to use.
both have their pros and cons.
honestly, i'd love to get 2 cdj 1000s in conjunction with my 1210s but i'd never get rid of my vinyl.
