Is anyone else hating the increasing presence of drum b bass samples (I say samples, some are a minute or more long) in hardcore songs, and usually good ones like New Years Day?
Every time I rave, when the dnb drops I stop cos the beat I was dancin to has suddenly ****ed off out of existence!
Does anyone agree???
I fear with the coming of 'freeform' we will eventually never have a whole hardcore song!

Doesn't bother me. It's good to see all my DnB head mates cry when they hear how well hardcore producers can make their music after they've spent years telling me "they have no talent" and "DnB producers are so much more talented because it's much harder to make".

I have been playing these tracks with good effect at party's where we mix DnB and Hardcore, not only is it keeping all entertained but it has introduced people to hardcore and some of those people have started listening to it now.

I can see why someone who doesn't like DnB would find this annoying but I have always liked DnB even if the scene has gone a bit to shiz lately.

Hating dnb?! Go to wikipedia.com and learn about the origins of hardcore as we know it today. Hardcore was originally breakbeat, then it progressed to the 4/4 kickdrum, and dnb branched off. People like Luna-C have been around since the beginning...

Breaks are the best, and for that reason I really appreciate artists that dabble in both breaks and 4/4 (Cube::Hard, Stormtrooper, Ham, Ponder, CLSM, etc., etc.)

Love breakbeats in freeform cos it jus adds to the randomness and complexity of the music, plus it's normally done very well. I also love old breakbeat hardcore and bouncy style that uses breaks and kicks.

On some upfront tracks though i find the breakbeats sound totally out of place and quite simple, put it this way wouldnt impress any dnb head.

But yes breakbeats are most definitely hardcore and a very interesting part of it, another reason why i love raindance is amount of breaks over all rooms can see how much variation there is.

As long as it doesn't become really overused and predictable i'm all for it.

As with all things breakbeats can be overdone, but generally i do enjoy the change just for little bit in the middle of a track. I really respect people like Ham & Robbie long for what they do because they really are pushing boundaries between musical styles and i've always fealt that that is what all producers should be doing. I too love old skool and always end up in old skool rooms at big events. However the Clown Step movement has killed D&B for me personally so on that front i tend to stick to true jungle when it come to D&B styles.

Breakbeats in hardcore good in moderation (that would have been quicker and simpler wouldn't it?)

Indeed i do, Panacea used to be quality D&B producer who often played at German gabber nights and now he's signed to Knightforce and putting out some quality tunage much more on a hardcore tip.

breakbeat is the awesome. a well placed amen break over the top of a tune just adds so much depth to it.

hardcore isn't just 4/4...most of the early 'hardcore' was breakbeats...and dark...and tasty

speaking of panacea...go buy kfa 31 now!!!
