Chris couldnt find any programme on the television worth watching.
So he decided to watch an episode of the gladiators....
Gladiators was one of the most successful TV shows in Britain in the nineties. It began in 1992. Every week two male and two female contenders would battle it out against the Gladiators over a series of gruelling events, culiminating in the Eliminator, the ultimate test of strength, stamina and willpower. The winners of the heats progressed into the later rounds, until only the series champions remained, safe in the knowledge that they had taken on the Gladiators and won. Gladiators ran for eight series until 1999, filmed in front of 7000 people at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham.
It was shown on ITV on Saturday evenings, always providing excellent entertainment. As well as the main yearly competition, there were also special series, an example being the Ashes programmes pitting the best of British contenders against their Aussie counterparts. Over the years, different contenders took up the challenge, new events were created, and Gladiators came and went. But the format remained the same throughout....it was the ultimate challenge.
