Ten years ago i thought the whole touch sensitive button thing was really cooll, and if someone told me about something like the IPOD Nano
INTERFACE ten years ago i'd probally think tis was really cool.
Now i just thinks its sad.
Its not jsut the nano, mp3 players in general are going to far down the star trek route for my liking.
Now, call me idiot, but does anyone here know of a circuit diagram to create single electric pulses, so i can hack together a TAPE WALKMAN INTERFACE, with a ipod nano.
I want a CLINK CLUNK interface for my nano.
If you can do it with a boom box, you can do it with a portable Tape player, my idea is a bit more adventurous, because i want the tactile feel, and button resistance of a tape player.

There are mp3 players with regular buttons, but as long as the majority wants touch sensitive buttons, then thats what the manufacturers are going to put on majority of the players.

Name one push button mp3 player.
I dont feel music is tangible if the buttons dont give you resistance.
I'll put it another way.
With vinyl you can feel your music alot more, you can even feel the beats
through the stylus, you can draw back record along the slipmat while its playing.
When you do this it feels HEAVY, there is nothing heavy about the ipod nano.
I dont know i have selected a song to play half the time.
You can sneeze and play a song without realizing it.

When i mean push button, i dont mean millimetre high button which are easy to push.
I mean Retro Push-Hard...Play..Chuck-CLunk...Stop....Clunk
For crying out loud guys its not exactly the year 4095, cassette tapes aren't that old.

I mean does anyone have anything more to say.
I know there is someone here who knows alot about science, because of the science questions i've asked in the past, so ther must be someone who knows alot about electronics.

If you can do it I don't think it'll be easy.
I don't really know that much about electronics - just enough to get by in my job tbh - but the current ipod buttons send the same signal wether you are switching play or pause. The actual play/pause function is handled in software.
The "retro" buttons your after are effectively dual state. ie when they are up it is stopped (paused) and when they are down it is playing. I guess you could sort some sort of mechanical thing out that sent a pulse or however those "soft" buttons work whichever way the button was going, but you would always run teh risk of getting the button state out of sync with the player state.

I kind of knew that, but your right.
Doing it ENTIRELY mechanicaly would a damn site easier than doing it electronically.
They only way i've figured out how to do it is by using a "One Shot Flip Flop switch"
This sends a pulse when the mechanism is pushed down, if you could find the exact pulse voltage, ampage, and ohmage, you could modify the circuit i found to do what i wanted it to do.
You would have to have two wires in the circuit, when the mechanism is up it completes the circuit so the twin IC's send a pulse to the ipod remote microcontroller, and when it is down it does the same.
This way it would be synced.
This is how i think it would work in theory, but i dont think i have the neccesary tools to do it, and i'm not sure if i would be able to fit the whole think in a walkman.
I dont understand, or know how to build and programable microcontroller, its also to expensive to do this, i'd have to learn how to do, and save up the money, so dont think this aproach is worth it.

...Or those new "Flip Flop Flava's" that came out in 99', they were rumoured have improved efficiency over wider voltage range......

I guess i'll just have to "deal" as the only person in the world who
doesn't like the Star trek.....Your-needed-on-the-bridge, the is a problem with one of our plasma-fussion-inverters......CAMP Touch-Sensitive.....borg...bleep-bloop.....
....interface of the ipod.

ive gotta agree with you there. I'm not exactly a technophone (i spend most my time on a pc), but it just pisses me off when you have to fiddle around with a tiny touchpad which usually doesn't so what you want it to (ipods arent so bad for this, the zen is more annoying), especially when you're a bit drunk or whatever.

so buy a tape player, im sure you can get one for cheap and record your mp3s to cassette.
you have to find the humor in it tho. you're looking for a tactile sensation from a digital audio player

mp3 players hold me songs, but mp3 players need spock to help you cope with their extremely Camp interface/controls.
I'd like to have the "best of both worlds", with cassete controls, and mp3 capacity.

I warned you, and ive warned you several times before. If you forgot to say something, edit your last post, do not double post. Next time i will delete the double post. You can emphasize your groundbreaking ideas all you want. Like your last 2 posts, there were only 3 minutes between them, you could have just as easily edited the former post, instead of posting the latter.
