it's not 100% accurate as to who's better than who, but it does show that USA haven't lost in a while. This might be the case for Egypt as well

The thing is with the FIFA rankings is that the points system rightly favours competitive games. Which is one of the reasons Germany are ranked so low.
As for Dark horses of the World Cup. I think Spain if they finally get their act together and actually play like they usually do in the qualification they stand a good chance of reach 1/4's. not sure on what teams they would face along the way so that might be complete rubbish.
