Their exists such a thing as "sleep hygiene", for people who don't know what this is it's quite a basic thing. It doesn't mean washing your hands before you go to bed, it basicly means having a regular patten for preparing to go to sleep routines if you will. And generally feeling comfortable within your surroundings.

If one has "poor sleep hygiene", then one might suffer from lack of sleep or an uncomfortable nights sleep.

I was wondering if their exists such a thing as "mixing hygiene", in a similar sense as "sleep hygiene"? I.e, feeling comfortable with the setup you have, comfortable with the tidiness of your mixing area/room/studio and so on...

I for one hate to have any wires tangled up, I hate any plugs from my stereo seperates near my feet. I like to have the room tidy and free from any stupid things lying around like paper work, clothes ect. I've found that if my room is messy, I tend not to feel comfortable mixing for any length of time.

Anyone else think/feel the same? Any points to raise on the subject? Or am I just talking bollocks?

Interesting topic there :)

I actually do believe in that, I've experienced something along those lines--it's all mental as well. I'm a neat freak, too, I can't stand everything all over the place, it makes me upset.

One of the principles of Feng Shui! The thought behind it is that an untidy room/house equals an untidy mind. If your space is clear, so is your mind and you relax more. I find this true - hence I am having a tidy right now (and getting distracted by the computer!)

ocd...if anything, i'm the one with ridiculous ocds!
for example
last evening, my friend and i went to subways to grab a bite to eat. after taking out the wrapped sandwhich from the baggy, i took off the paper and before i started eating, i folded the wrapping paper neatly over a few times. spreaded out the bag flat, placed the folded paper over the bag in the center, with the sandwhich on top...and so on.

but yeah, i tend to sleep better and get on with the days better when my room is all tidy.
i have enough things on my mind, looking at a room with absolute clutter doesn't help things.
gotta keep the energy flowing.

Oh, as for mixing hygeine (when I get the time) there are certain things which are a definite must..... I absolutely REFUSE to put a mix together without the following!

1) I insist on having a 240V power supply to feed my mixer and decks! I'm sorry, but no power, no Loopy!

2) Records! I like to have all the records I want to play at least in the same building as me, if not the same room!!!

3) Decks and mixer MUST be near each other! Theres no point even asking me to put together a set if the decks are going to be the other side of the room to the mixer!
