While going for promotion at work....I informed the boss at my sunday job that I'd no longer be able to help them out....Only for them to turn around and offer me Manager / Licencee of the pub!!!

This isn't an easy choice!!

1) The club I work in at the min (Bar Supervisor/Manager) is brilliant and love it there. It's full of young people enjoyin themselves...And Hardcore is coming there monthly from september.

2)I've helped build the place--the place is sentimental!

3) The club is the biggest in Sheffield and covers a very wide range in music from Orchestra-house-DnB-Psy Trance and soon Hardcore / Techno- Indie and has a lot of big names appearing. Already had Pete Tong, Arctic Monkeys, Jeff Mills, All the big DnB DJ's, Mark E.G...and loads more.

4)The managers have been unreal to me. Almost llike family. Have paid for flights for me to go home whenever needs be.

5)The club is still only young and growing quickly!

But...at the min. Can't offer me a good salary.

Other Hand. At the Pub...

1) It's a small local pub/ Irish Heritage Centre which looks after elderly and youg children with problems.

2)They can offer a salary with take home of £300 per week.

But...

Being a Licencee / Manager...I'll be doing a lot of hours!!

It's an 'old mans' pub. No more young crowds and good music and I'll be the youngest there.

Although, Both places have told me that, no-matter which choice I make, Their doors will always be open to me if I need work at any time in the future.

Thoughts...anyone?

All this and I'm only 22!

Depends if you really need the extra money or not... Personally I would choose what I enjoyed more if there wasn't a massive difference in pay. Also you say the club is getting bigger so it may lead to better opportunities in the future.

That's the thing, I probably could...But I'm fed up with earning 200 - 250 one week...the 140 - 180 the next.

I agree that It's very important to enjoy your work...but money pays bills.

It's an easy choice to make money-wise and for experience....but for the enjoyment from work...It'd be the club.

I know what you mean bulby mate...But there are also chances of better oppertunities at the pub as well. It's part of a large chain with its headquarters in london....

Been swaying from side to side over the past few days...

Sounds to me like you really want to stay at the club, you can tell in the way you talk about it. You sound really enthusiastic about the club, and very much "money pays the bills" about the pub.

You've raised 5 good points about the club, and only 2 about the pub. Tells you something doesn't it

You've hit the nail on the head...but doesn't make choice any easier.
Plus, Manager/ Licencee would be excellent on your CV.

Bar Manager for a club.

Manager/Licencee of a pub.

....in demand by both and all for a man who doesn't drink! That's one of the problems with being a diamond geezer

Does the club know that you've been offered the job by the pub and how much you'll earn?

Could you use this to encourage them to make you a better offer, maybe with more responsibilities, and keep you in the place you'd rather be?

After doing the odd shitty job here and there for more money - I strongly suggest that you do what you enjoy (if you can get by), it will help your life and your health I assure you of that!

But if you become manager wouldnt you have more stable hours, so your weekly pay wouldnt vary as much??? id go with the one you enjoy most, and as you said both places said they would have a position for you no matter what... if you find that your new position at the club isnt for you anymore, you can give the other place a shot.... plus manager does look good on a CV :D in the end youll work out whats best for you :)

Cheers Ionosphere, and Thanks everyone for the advice.

IONOSPHERE: Yeah, I recently told the club about what they are offering and they said they'd be unable to put me onto a salary and, If they did, I'd loose out due to the amount of hours I'd be working. What they said they could do is give me a guaranteed number of hours per week.

After a lot of thought...and then some more....and more....I've THINK i'm going to go along with the pub.
At the end of the day, At the club - I'll be the Bar supervisor / Manager for at least another year possibly before any chance to move any higher.

With the pub, It's a fresh and exciting challenge...All-be-it in an 'older' pub..But I enjoy working behind the bar in both places. And it's not every day you be offered such a chance. I don't want to be regretting my decision if I decide not to take the Manager job. If I take it and it goes tits up, At least I can say I tried.

Plus, with the pub- I can afford days off and go out looking for my other half.

It'll not be an easy change, but the club recently rang and re-assured me that I'll always have a job there in the future.

I've one more meeting with the pub tomorrow where I'll push for good money straight away, If they can make it worth my while, I'm off to them...If not - I can go to the club, no feelings lost.

Cheers again everyone.
